What's On Tonight (Saturday): Preserving Our Television Heritage, Volume 7

The Twilight Zone, "Time Enough at Last"

Hello my television appreciators! Here's what's on television for tonight, Saturday, July 3!

A holiday weekend with barely anything new on? It's time to celebrate classic TV again! In these listings you will find classic TV from across all networks and some highlights from the lesser streamers.

Elsewhere, the Meerkats have family squabbles, Young Dylan joins the mathletes, Danger Force must take a picture, Princess Diana gets more documentary treatment, and Dr. Stone readies for the final battle.

STREAMING & EARLY PRIMETIME

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Archie Bunker's Place (Antenna TV, 6 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. Archie is back on the schedule! In this okay, but also at times bizarre, follow-up to All in the Family, Archie does his best to run a bar and raise Stephanie. The show has some real bright spots but is wildly uneven and messy throughout its run with a revolving door of people in the supporting cast. In the premiere, we meet Archie's new business partner, Martin Balsam.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Bret Maverick (Get TV, 6 p.m.): SERIES FINALE. This short-lived Maverick follow-up, found Bret Maverick, TV's original antihero, putting down roots in Arizona Territory but still isn't shy about pulling off the occasional con. In the finale, "when his partner Tom Guthrie is trying to get his sheriff's job back and hopes that Bret will keep quiet, Bret is busy with the biggest con of his life. Bret's brother Bart shows up."

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Car 54, Where Are You? (Crackle, now): This too short-lived sitcom about two oddball and loveable New York City cops is free to stream. Even with a fantastic theme song, the show deserves more credit. The writing and performances are stellar.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Doctor Who (Retro TV, 6 p.m.): The Kraals plot to wipe out humanity with a virus to prepare the Earth for their "Android Invasion."

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Emergency! (Cozi, 6 p.m.): A paramedic from England rides with Roy & John to observe the paramedic program at work, and is present during a fire caused by a molotov cocktail thrown at a policeman, helping a wild-west performer with an injured finger, a traffic accident involving a car loaded with marijuana, and a man trapped in a construction site.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Family (Tubi, now): The joys and heartaches of the Lawrence family of Pasadena, California are the subject of this underappreciated 1970s family drama. The cast is great. Kristy McNichol 4 Lyfe!

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Hee Haw (Circle, 6 p.m.): Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, Dwight Yoakam, Billy Grammer, and The Cannons appear/perform.

Riviera (Ovation, 7 p.m.): Georgina learns the truth about Nico, but as she homes in on the proof, events take a horrifying turn. Jeff's loyalty to Georgina is pushed to its limit, while Irina threatens to crack under pressure as the family's suspicions grow.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Suburgatory (CW Seed, now): Is this sitcom about a single dad and his daughter moving from Manhattan to the plastic and worldly suburbs (and turns 10 years old this fall) really "classic?" Not really. Not yet anyway. But I love it and everyone needs some Jane Levy in their life.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ That's My Mama (Tubi, now): This short-lived and mostly forgotten Black '70s sitcom lives! Clifton Davis "likes being a barber in Washington, D.C., where he works in the business started by his father. He also enjoys being single, but his widowed mama Eloise has other ideas, and wants him settled like his sister Tracy and her conservative husband Leonard."

⭐๐Ÿ“บ The Twilight Zone (Decades, 7:30 p.m.): An Independence Day weekend would be incomplete without a marathon of the Rod, White & Blue. Decades serves up a weekend of The Twilight Zone, and  right before prime-primetime, we get the anthology's first masterpiece episode, "Time Enough at Last," which also served as tonight's gif. The episodes aren't being aired in any particular order.

๐Ÿ•— 8:00 EASTERN / ๐Ÿ•– 7:00 CENTRAL

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Band of Brothers (History, 8 p.m.): History will spend the day reairing this quintessential World War II miniseries that turns 20(!!) years old this fall. In this episode, the eighth of 10, Lt. Jones leads a patrol across a river to take enemy prisoners, but the loss of a paratrooper leads Winters to refuse to send another patrol the next night.

Danger Force (Nickelodeon, 8 p.m.): Ray must get Danger Force to take a picture with their parents in the school or be shut down. Things get complicated when Chapa hires Jake Hart to be her fake father.

๐ŸŽฅ A Date with Danger (Lifetime, 8 p.m.): A single mom is looking for a fresh start in a new town when she befriends a boutique owner. After her new friend goes missing, she begins to suspect her neighbor of the crime.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ How I Met Your Mother (Laff, 8:30 p.m.): In the best episode of the series, "Slap Bet," curious about Robin's distaste for shopping malls, Barney does some digging and discovers her hidden past. When he unveils the truth to the gang, they are provided with endless hours of amusement from their new discovery about Robin's teen years. I doubt How I Met Your Father will craft something this good.

๐ŸŽฅ Let Him Go (HBO, 8 p.m.): Following the loss of their son, retired sheriff Kevin Costner and his wife Diane Lane leave their ranch to rescue their grandson from a dangerous family living off the grid in the Dakotas.

Meerkat Manor: Rise of the Dynasty (BBC America, 8 p.m.): Sencha, Munchkin and K'jess are in the line of fire as heavily pregnant Flint seeks to rid herself of threats within the family. Rover Shandy rocks up in Ubuntu's newly claimed Zulu territory, and sisters Laika and Fly are left alone at Whiskers.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Sanford and Son (TV One, 8:30 p.m.): In one of the odder episodes of the classic '70s sitcom about father-and-son junk dealers, Fred debates competing in a Redd Foxx look-alike contest in town.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ๐Ÿ’ฒ  Super Password (Buzzr, 8 p.m.): Password got super with this mid/late '80s incarnation that was of course hosted by Allen Ludden. Tonight's two episodes are from June 1985.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ The Virginian (Starz Encore Western, 8:30 p.m.): This long-running and once immensely highly-popular '60s Western gets the first several episodes played during the day. In this episode, Trampas (Doug McClure) becomes involved with three good old fun loving guys. The four of them meet up with a gang of real bad guys. When Trampas and friends volunteer to go after the bad guys they get an awakening from the townsfolk. This show, set in 1890s Wyoming, is a 90-minute series.

Young Dylan (Nickelodeon, 8:30 p.m.): A lucky guess in math class lands Dylan on the Mathlete squad, where his teammate, Rebecca, is worried that he will hurt their chances in the upcoming regional competition.

BRIEFLYVacation House Rules (HGTV)

๐Ÿ•˜ 9:00 EASTERN / ๐Ÿ•— 8:00 CENTRAL

Diana: Chasing a Fairytale (CNN Special Report) (CNN, 9 p.m.): SPECIAL. Princess Diana was killed in a tragic accident in Paris. Observations on what made Diana into the woman she became when she passed away -- as told by those closest to her.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Perry Mason (FETV, 9 p.m.): I prefer my Perry to be original recipe, not that watered-down/spiced-up HBO nonsense. In this high-profile episode, widowed lawyer (and Academy Award-winner) Bette Davis must clears her husband's name and helps a rebellious boy charged with murder.

This Weekend in Pop Culture (WOT&Pop Culture, 9:30 p.m.): What pop culture have you consumed lately?

BRIEFLYCritter Fixers: Country Vets (Nat Geo Wild, season finale)

๐Ÿ•™ 10:00 EASTERN / ๐Ÿ•˜ 9:00 CENTRAL

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Bewitched (Antenna TV, 10:30 p.m.): Because everyone loves an Aunt Clara episode, right? Right. "Aunt Clara is depressed because her magic is failing, so she becomes a babysitter."

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Columbo (Cozi, 10 p.m.): It is the penultimate appearance of Columbo. In this 2001 episode, "Columbo investigates the murder of a talented musician who was killed in dramatic fashion, and it's not long before the finger of suspicion points to an embittered and jealous rival composer."

⭐๐Ÿ“บ The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (MTV 2, 10:30 p.m.): In an episode that leans into emotions to a high degree, Uncle Philip (James Avery) ends up having a heart attack, leaving Will (Will Smith), who was West Philadelphia born-and-raised, to show that Carlton needs to show his love and sympathy for his father.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ How the West Was Won (INSP, 10:30 p.m.): The epic Western movie from 1962 spawned a TV series in the late '70s. What INSP airs tonight is the 1976 TV movie that would launch the series. Narrated by William Conrad, the movie stars James Arness and Eva Marie Saint, among others. If you look closely, you'll see Jonathan Banks.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Miami Vice (Starz Encore Classic, 10:30 p.m.): Spend the weekend with the MTV-inspired cop show Miami Vice. It's very '80s and the first couple seasons are fantastic. In the season two opener, "Crockett and Tubbs travel to New York to take down a powerful Colombian cartel."

⭐๐Ÿ“บ The Saint (FeTV, 10 p.m.): In this stylish 1960s British adventure series, Anthony Nicholls's anxious to sell a family diamond, and pre-James Bond Roger Moore rides shotgun when his employee and his daughter (Jane Merrow) go to Amsterdam to have the diamond cut. Also starring a white Volvo P1800S.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Star Trek (MeTV, 10 p.m.): In "The Immunity Syndrome," the "Enterprise encounters a gigantic energy draining space organism that threatens the galaxy.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Starsky and Hutch (Get TV, 10 p.m.): In this two-parter that originally aired as a two-hour episode, the two streetwise detectives (David Soul, Paul Michael Glaser) pose as recreation officers on a cruise ship filled with syndicate chieftains. Academy Award-winner Jose Ferrer guest stars, and I'm gonna guess their Ford Gran Torino isn't much help on a cruise ship.

๐Ÿ’ค๐Ÿ’ค๐Ÿ˜ด๐Ÿ’ค๐Ÿ’ค

Black Clover (Adult Swim, 2 a.m.): Asta tells his instructor how he earned his grimoire, learned to read ki and began to control the devil's power.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Black Sheep Squadron (Heroes & Icons, 11 p.m.): Pappy (Robert Conrad), injured in the previous episode, receives an entirely new kind of wound when a nurse that he's fallen for reveals that she's married. While this World War II/U.S. Marines show about the Black Sheep Squadron, originally called Baa Baa Black Sheep, isn't that good, it does feature a young Dirk Blocker, John Larroquette, and Larry Manetti.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Cagney & Lacey (Start TV, 2 a.m.): The female detective drama that almost didn't survive its first season is into the final episodes on Start. The girlfriend of a murdered federal witness asks for help finding his killer. Meanwhile, one of Alice Lacey's classmates has AIDS.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ๐Ÿ’ฒ  Card Sharks (Buzzr, 4 a.m.): If the new ABC version isn't satisfying, you definitely need to try the original with Jim Perry. The two episodes here are from December 1978.

Dr. Stone (Adults Swim, 12:30 a.m.): The final battle begins as Senku and The Kingdom of Science return to the miracle cave with a full frontal assault in order to wrestle control back from Tsukasa and his men.

Food Wars! (Adult Swim, 1:30 a.m.): As the Elite Ten purges the rebels, Soma hatches a daring plan to save his fallen comrades.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Friends (Nick-at-Nite, 11:30 p.m.): Monica is distraught after her break-up with Richard, but the others will be there for her. Chandler and Janice begin seeing each other again. Ross tells Rachel and Chandler about his "Princess Leia" fantasy.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Grace Under Fire (Laff, 2 a.m.): By this point, the topical '90s sitcom about a non-nuclear family led by single-mother Grace Kelly (Brett Butler), is showing occasional signs of the behind-the-scenes turmoil that will eventually be its undoing. In this season four episode, Jimmy (Geoff Pierson), Grace's ex, wants to turn his life around, so she gets him a job at the refinery. However, he is blamed for mishaps that follow.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Hart to Hart (Get TV, 2 a.m.): The Harts (Robert Wagner, Stefanie Powers), globe-trotting amateur detectives, have been invited to England by Gordon Jackson to participate in a fox hunt. When he is killed when trap shooting, the Harts find themselves looking for a murderer whilst avoiding being killed themselves.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Monk (We, 2 a.m.): The master obsessive-compulsive detective Monk unravels a mystery when a toddler finds a severed finger in a park.

My Hero Academia (Adult Swim, midnight): Bakugo shows a different side of himself in the fourth team match as the class battles continue.

Naruto: Shippuden (Adult Swim, 2:30 a.m.): Danzo misleads Hanzo by telling him that the Akatsuki are trying to sabotage the peace talks between the Hidden Rain and Stone.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ The Rookies (Heroes & Icons, 2 a.m.): Vietnam veteran Glynn Turman is angry at society for how its treating him. Unable to find employment, he could fall back on his cousin, Terry Webster (Georg Stanford Brown), but instead, will likely join a robbery operation to make a large amount of money.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ Sister, Sister (MTV 2, 3 a.m.): In a classic sitcom plot, Tamera (Tamera Mowry) switches places with Tia (Tia Mowry) to tutor a cute jock in history.

⭐๐Ÿ“บ That Girl (Antenna TV, 11:30 p.m.): "Police raid a club where waitress Ann is serving mobsters."

⭐๐Ÿ“บ The Time Tunnel (MeTV, 3 a.m.): "Doug and Tony become involved in a war between the ancient Greeks and Trojans." This show is bad.
