What's On Tonight (Saturday): Preserving Our Television Heritage, Chapter 3

77 Sunset Strip
Hello and welcome to the third edition of Preserving Our Television Heritage! In yet another edition, I scour the television schedules predominantly for classic programs. Here's what's on television for tonight, Saturday, August 17!

EARLY PRIMETIME

Concentration πŸ“ΊπŸ’² (Buzzr, 7 p.m.): If you will watch this 1987 episode, then you will certainly be hopeful that some network will be ambitious enough to make a revival happen!

Doctor Who πŸ“Ί (Retro TV, 6 p.m.): The Doctor (Jon Pertwee) transports himself "sideways in time" to a parallel world, where an English drilling project causes catastrophic amounts of heat and force to be unleashed when it penetrates the Earth's crust. Save us Doctor!!

Frankie Drake Mysteries (Ovation, 7 p.m.): Frankie needs to decide which side detective Greyson is on, which I take to mean Team Edward or Team Jacob. Later, a famous diamond is stolen, so Frankie has gotta find it because... otherwise there's no show.

The Six Million Dollar Man πŸ“Ί (Cozi TV, 6 p.m.): Oscar Goldman (Richard Anderson) has disappeared while inspecting the Bull Frog gold mine in Nevada by request of his old friend Bert Carrington (Farley Granger). Million Colonel Steve Austin (Lee Majors) refuses to believe his friend and superior is involved in a gold-raid and decides to do some investigating. Titled "The Midas Touch," this episode doesn't sound like it is about the auto shop chain.

Welcome Back, Kotter πŸ“Ί (Antenna TV, 7 p.m.): In this two-parter of the network’s Kotter back to school marathon, the Kotters prepare for the birth of their baby (a big surprise awaits them in the delivery room) while the Sweathogs discover that Barbarino got left back in the 10th grade.

FOR THE RECORD: Injustice with Nancy Grace (Oxygen, 6 p.m.)
Doctor Who, "Inferno" (via Giphy)

πŸ•— EASTERN / πŸ•– CENTRAL

77 Sunset Strip πŸ“Ί (Decades, 8 p.m.): This weekend binge is comprised of the latter part of the series. Hired to investigate a robbery, Bailey (Efrem Zimbalist Jr.) has one baffling lead: the theft was so perfectly timed – like a wartime commando raid.

Columbo πŸ“Ί (Cozi TV, 8 p.m.): A wine connoisseur (Donald Pleasence) kills his half- brother to prevent him selling the family winery to a merchant company so he can pay off his gambling debts. Help us, Lt. Columbo (Peter Falk). You're our only hope.

The District πŸ“Ί (Heroes & Icons, 8 p.m.): In this season opener, Mannion (Craig T. Nelson) fights for his life to figure out who's trying to kill him. The trail leads him to... Paris and... a government official!

Escape Room πŸŽ₯ (Starz, 8 p.m.): Did you remember this was a movie? Six strangers find themselves in a maze of deadly mystery rooms and must use their wits to survive.

M*A*S*H (IFC, 8 p.m.): Before he was Col. Potter, Harry Morgan guest starred as a general who is a stickler for rules... and maybe a little off his rocker.

The Mule πŸŽ₯ (HBO, 8 p.m.): The only thing I know about this movie come courtesy of Saturday Night Live.

Svengoolie: Village of the Damned πŸŽ₯ (MeTV, 8 p.m.): In the English village of Midwich, the blonde-haired, glowing-eyed children of uncertain paternity prove to have frightening powers.

V.C. Andrew's Heaven Casteel Saga: Gates of Paradise πŸŽ₯ (Lifetime, 8 p.m.): Chapter four! Orphaned and crippled, Heaven's daughter Annie is whisked off to Farthinggale Manor by Tony Tatterton. She pines for her lost family, especially her beloved cousin/half-brother Luke. Without the warm glow of his love, she's lost in the shadows of despair and forced into submission by Nurse Broadfield. This series is getting dark.

Walker, Texas Ranger πŸ“Ί (Cozi TV, 8 p.m.): In this season closer, there's a reunion of former Texas Rangers and a shooting competition with cops from all over the country, including a senator rumored to make a run for the presidency. The rest of the summary is long and I don't feel like summarizing it, but that first sentence says enough.

FOR THE RECORD: Boise Boys (HGTV)

πŸ•˜ EASTERN / πŸ•— CENTRAL

77 Sunset Strip πŸ“Ί (Decades, 9 p.m.): Kookie (Edd Byrnes) and Jeff (Roger Smith) must protect their godchild from becoming a mob target.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air πŸ“Ί (MTV2, 9:30 p.m.): Will (Will Smith) uses Carlton (Alfonso Ribeiro) to escape from a woman (Vivica A. Fox).

In the Heat of the Night πŸ“Ί (ThisTV, 9 p.m.): A mugging investigation uncovers the plight of an abused wife. However, I tend to think every investigation is a muggy one because... the show takes place in the South.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit πŸ“Ί (Ion, 9 p.m.): In this season nine episode – that was more than 10 years ago!! – Benson and Stabler suspect the drug-dealing uncle of a girl (Shareeka Epps) found raped and beaten, but the theft of the rape kit identifying her attacker leads them to a crooked prison guard.

Sale of the Century πŸ“ΊπŸ’² (Buzzr, 9 p.m.): From 1988, contestants compete to bankroll money and buy 'Instant Bargains' in back-to-back episodes of this game show.

Sanford and Son πŸ“Ί (TV One, 9 p.m.): Pilot episode! See the sitcom that was a ratings-star for the then-sitcom lagging NBC.

A Summer Romance πŸŽ₯ (Hallmark Channel, 9 p.m.): A young woman starts to fall for a New York real estate developer who wants to buy her family's picturesque ranch in Montana. [*crazy, romantic drama ensues*]

Zombie Tidal Wave πŸŽ₯ (Syfy, 9 p.m.): Zombies wreak bloodthirsty havoc after a tidal wave hits a small town. This is why I don't do water.

FOR THE RECORD: Black Love (OWN); Cake Boss (Discovery Family); Live PD (A&E); New Japan Pro Wrestling (AXS TV); Restaurant: Impossible (Food Network); Say Yes to the Dress (TLC); The Vanilla Ice Project (DIY); The Zoo: San Diego (Animal Planet)
Sanford and Son (via Giphy)

πŸ•™ EASTERN / πŸ•˜ CENTRAL

Tattletales πŸ“ΊπŸ’² (Buzzr, 10 p.m.): All I can tell you is that this game show episode is from 1975.

Home Improvement πŸ“Ί (Laff, 10 p.m.): Jill has ignored the car's oil warning light for two days, and the car becomes inoperative. Tim then gives a speech on Tool Time about the oil light incident that happened to "a friend"... then says it was his wife. And that she drools A LOT in her sleep.

M*A*S*H πŸ“Ί (WGN, 10:30 p.m.): Margaret's mysterious disappearance so disturbs Frank that he shoots B.J. while preparing to search for her.

FOR THE RECORD: Big Rig Warriors (FYI, finale); Hip Hop Squares πŸ’² (MTV); The Vet Life (Animal Planet)
Home Improvement (via Giphy)

πŸ•š EASTERN / πŸ•™ CENTRAL

Bewitched πŸ“Ί (Antenna TV, 11:30 p.m.): In this early-ish color episode, Endora's attempt at being the perfect sweet and charming mother-in-law causes a split between Darrin and Larry.

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century πŸ“Ί (MeTV, 11 p.m.): Buck (Gil Gerard) steps in as security aboard a luxury space yacht when kidnappers try to snatch a genetically perfect woman (Dorothy Stratten)

Dragon Ball Super (Adult Swim, 11 p.m.): Frieza and Dyspo's duel accelerates out of control; as Frieza gets pushed back, Gohan enters the mix in hopes of getting a quick elimination.

Gen: Lock (Adult Swim, 11:30 p.m.): The Colonel raises concern about Doc's residency; Chase feels the impact of absence; new recruits are introduced to the potential of using gen: Lock mecha for combat.

The Good Wife πŸ“Ί (Start TV, 11 p.m.): Peter tries to make a strong showing in the Iowa Caucus, but Alicia is still giving the cold shoulder to Eli. (In case the current election leaves you wanting even more Iowa.)

Hill Street Blues πŸ“Ί (Heroes & Icons, 11 p.m.): In the fantastic first episode (of three) of the night, Bates (Betty Thomas) makes an error in judgment when she allows a junkie prostitute to shoot up prior to arresting her only to have the hooker nearly die from an overdose. Furillo (Daniel J. Travanti) demands that Davenport become more open about their romantic relationship.

FOR THE RECORD: Hanging With the Hendersons (Animal Planet, finale); Mountain Mamas (HGTV)
Bewitched (via Giphy)

πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ˜΄πŸ’€πŸ’€

Black Clover (Adult Swim, 1:30 a.m.): When Xerx proves ineffective in the battle against Langris, Asta lets loose his dark powers; Luck's team confronts Rill's team.

Blue Thunder πŸ“Ί (getTV, 3 a.m.): In this 1980s action show, the Blue Thunder guys befriend parachutist Gretchen Terrell (Tracy Scoggins) during an air show. Blue Thunder is tasked with security for a troubled foreign country's embassy party. Unbeknownst to them, Gretchen is married to the leader of the revolt.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations (Adult Swim, 2 a.m.): The Byakuya Gang's activity in Hidden Leaf intensifies and more genin get assigned to track them down, but not all of them believe the gang should be stopped; Shikadai forms a bond with a young man named Ryugi.

Fire Force (Adult Swim, midnight): A call mistakenly comes in to Company 8 to rescue a dog out of a tree, to which Shinra and Arthur respond; when an Infernal suddenly appears at the district courthouse, the two must play catch-up to join the rest of the company.

Food Wars! (Adult Swim, 1 a.m.): The Shokugeki between Mito Ikumi and Yukihira Soma begins and Soma will have to transform his cheap ingredients to defeat the Meat Master's expensive beef.

Grace Under Fire πŸ“Ί (Laff, 1 a.m.): In one of the last really great episodes, Grace clashes with Jean over her making a traditional Kelly family favorite for Christmas. Quentin takes advantage of the privacy he's afforded in the garage apartment.

The Invaders πŸ“Ί (MeTV, midnight): Extraterrestrials discourage Vincent from publicizing proof of their presence by capturing his brother (Linden Chiles).

Land of the Giants πŸ“Ί (MeTV, 3 a.m.): The little people become involved with a group of jewel thieves operating from a spooky wax museum. Tensions rise as the crooks fall out over a missing diamond, the whereabouts of which is known to the little people. This was at best mediocre, which is better than most episode.

Lost in Space πŸ“Ί (MeTV, 1 a.m.): When the Robinsons nearly reach Alpha Centauri, they find a human base run by young people. They convince the adults that Penny and Will (DANGER WILL ROBINSON!) aren't their children and they leave in the Jupiter 2.

The Time Tunnel πŸ“Ί (MeTV, 4 a.m.): During the Battle of Khartoum in 1883, Tony and Doug stumble upon aliens who plan to conquer the Earth using missiles. THIS EPISODE IS BAD BAD BAD.
