This Weekend in Pop Culture: August 16-18

Welcome to the Weekend in Pop Culture! Let's examine what's coming out in theaters this weekend...

Wide
The Angry Birds Movie 2
Remember how they made 2010's hottest video game into a movie a few years back? Well, they made a sequel. Just be glad it's not a sequel to "The Emoji Movie."

Good Boys
Three sixth-grade boys have multiple misadventures trying to get home in time for a party. This is a movie whose poster prominently features its R rating, so you can imagine how risque those adventures are going to get.

47 Meters Down: Uncaged
A group of teen girls find themselves diving with sharks. And not in the cool, caged way. Hey, I just got the title!

Blinded by the Light
An English-Pakistani teenager finds his voice through the music of Bruce Springsteen. But even he can't explain that "wrapped up like a deuce" lyric.

Where’d You Go, Bernadette
An ex-architect suburban mother disappears, leading her neighbors to wonder what happened. This white nonsense wins the “A Star is Born” award for having its trailers play before seemingly every movie I’ve gone to for months, to the point where I’d confess to treason before willingly watching it again. (Also, good work seeming to spoil the entire mystery in your second trailer, guys.)

Limited
Aquarela
A documentary about water and its destructive force.

So what have you been up to in pop culture? And what do you plan to get up to soon?
