What's On Tonight (Wednesday): Celebrate fictional music history with Sherman's Showcase

Welcome to Amadeus3000's Wednesday Showcase, better known as What's On Tonight! Actually, that's all it's ever been called. Tonight, the spotlight goes to the other show created by Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin, Sherman's Showcase, though fictional, a big nostalgia kick for black America. Also of note: animals on PBS! Here's what's on television for tonight, Wednesday, August 28!

💻 Streaming

Droppin' Cash: Los Angeles (Netflix, 3 a.m.): PREMIERE. Rich people spend money on the stuff the common folk dream about in this show I didn't know existed (and disdained by many people).

Four Weddings and a Funeral (Hulu, 3 a.m.): Missandei Maya and Kash get to know each other behind Ainsley's back. Tony 2 realizes he and Andrew come from very different worlds. Ainsley and Craig play matchmaker, as do Gemma and Duffy.

Harlots (Hulu, 3 a.m.): FINALE. Aaaaaaaaand... I can't find an episode description.

Travis Scott: Look Mom I Can Fly (Netflix, 3 a.m.): While crafting Astroworld, rapper Travis Scott juggles controversy, fatherhood, and career highs in this documentary.

America's Got Talent (NBC, 8 p.m.): Seven acts move on to the semifinals round of competition, LIVE!

Animal Babies: First Year on Earth (PBS, 8 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. Puppers, cubbies, elephants, otters, monkeys... so much AWWWWW. Also, probs heartache because surviving ain't easy.

Bulletproof (The CW, 8 p.m.): Pike and Bishop stumble onto an organ-harvesting ring, ultimately leading to Pike's daughter being taken by the ring leader.

MasterChef (Fox, 8 p.m.): Family members and loved ones of the top seven make a surprise visit to the kitchen to watch the contestants make their favorite family-inspired dishes.

Suits (USA, 8:30 p.m.): In the middle of the final season, the show offers a series retrospective, because... why not?

The Challenge (MTV, 9 p.m.): PREMIERE. Challenge superstars face off against a troop of British hopefuls in order to make their countries proud and take home their share of the million dollar prize.

Queen Sugar (OWN, 9 p.m.): Micah and Keke's plans for prom are derailed. Darla pleads for Ralph Angel's forgiveness, and Violet tells Hollywood there's something she needs to do to release her past. This show is great, you guys!

Songland (NBC, 9 p.m.): Songwriters pitch material to Leona Lewis, who don't care what they say... she's in love with you.

David Makes Man (OWN, 10 p.m.): David describes his day to the school's county-approved clinical psychiatrist, including his class presentation, which helps repair his relationship with Seren.

Hollywood Game Night ðŸ’² (NBC, 10 p.m.): Tonight's celebs include Brie Bella, Nikki Bella, Lester Holt, Chris Sullivan, Michael Ealy, and Natasha Leggero.

Magical Land of Oz (PBS, 10 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. In Australia, discover how animals have learned to survive in harsh conditions, from high snow-covered peaks to frigid and wild southern seas.

The Murder Tapes (ID, 10 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. Another day, another new show about murderers.

Pearson (USA, 10 p.m.): Jessica tries to square a debt. Nick reels from McGann's bombshell. Yoli deals with personal news.

⭐ Sherman's Showcase (IFC, 10 p.m.): In this show told as infomercials about a fictional 40-year long running variety show, a la Soul Train, etc., it's a very '90s day with performers including Big Freddy Payne, a go-go band and a trailer for a movie about Montell Jordan.

Snowfall (FX, 10 p.m.): Today in vague descriptions: Andre receives help from an unexpected source. Franklin finds himself exposed (hopefully it isn't cold outside). Julia forces Teddy's hand.

South Side (Comedy Central, 10:30 p.m.): Simon and Kareme crash a barbecue. Officer Turner gets a new wig to impress her old high school classmates. (I'm already laughing.)

Yellowstone (Paramount Network, 10 p.m.): FINALE. The feud with the Becks comes to a head as the Duttons scramble to save one of their own.

Younger (TV Land, 10 p.m.): Millennial is left reeling after the regime change back to Charles. Kelsey deals with the aftermath of her social media mishap ("Guess who got the money, honey!"). Liza tries to be polite while letting go of the past... which is probably Josh. Let him go, showrunners!
