Jeopardy! recap for Thur., May 2

 Here are today's contestants:

- Sarah Hardy, a pediatrician from Hot Springs, Arkansas;

- Angelus Kocoshis, an attorney & flower farmer from Muncie, Indiana; and

- Weckiai Rannila, an engineer from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Weckiai is a one-day champ with winnings of $9,999.

Jeopardy!

A VIEW OF THE CITY // CELEBRITY SIBLINGS // DIARIES & JOURNALS // STOCK SYMBOLS // YOU GOTTA HAVE HEART // 1950s TALK

DD1 - $1,000 - DIARIES & JOURNALS - On July 4, 1862 he made an entry in his diary saying he went "to Godstow with the 3 Liddells; we had tea on the bank there" (Angelus lost $2,400 on a true DD.)

Scores at first break: Weckiai $4,600, Angelus $1,800, Sarah $2,800.

Scores entering DJ: Weckiai $6,600, Angelus $4,200, Sarah $3,800.

Double Jeopardy!

LITERARY NORTH CAROLINA // THE GREATS OF HISTORY // PHYSICS /  FAST &/OR FURIOUS // THE GIRL IN THE SONG // WORD ORIGINS

DD2 - $1,600 - THE GREATS OF HISTORY - A 3rd century B.C. leader of this Punic city, Hanno the Great opposed costly wars & even negotiated peace with Rome (Angelus doubled to $6,800.)

DD3 - $800 - WORD ORIGINS - A wealthy & powerful businessman, it was borrowed from the Japanese who in turn borrowed it from the Chinese words for "great prince" (Angelus lost $5,000 from his total of $8,400.)

Angelus found all three DDs and missed two of them, so Weckaia, who has yet to uncover a DD in her two games, led into FJ at $15,000 vs. $9,000 for Sarah and $4,600 for Angelus.

Final Jeopardy!

COUNTRIES WITH SPACE PROGRAMS - It launched its first satellite, Asterix, in 1965

Everyone was correct on this very obvious FJ clue. Weckaia added $3,001 to win with $18,001 for a two-day total of $28,000.

Final scores: Weckiai $18,001, Angelus $4,600, Sarah $17,999.

What I learned on Jeopardy! today: that apparently it is possible to grow up in America and not have heard "Born To Run" hundreds of times whether you wanted to or not.

Correct Qs: DD1 - Who was Carroll? DD2 - What is Carthage? DD3 - What is tycoon? FJ - What is France?
