What's On Tonight (Sunday): Equal time

The Equalizer

Grand slam from downtown! Here's what's on television for tonight, Sunday, February 7!

Tonight after da ballz, Queen Latifah stars in the remake of the essential '80s crime drama The Equalizer. With its cool Stewart Copeland theme and British actor Edward Woodward in the title role, Latifah has big shoes to fill. She leaves her old job as a CIA operative and tries to make up for bad things she's done by helping out the the common person, but probably not through a newspaper ad in 2021.

Elsewhere, the Weeknd performs this weekend, the Irwins are back, Miss Scarlet helps a photographer, authorities close in on Elizabeth Carmichael, Walter and his family wrap up a Long Run season, Colbert does a special Sunday show, and sportsballs plays a big game that corporations love — and we in turn love corporations marketing?

STREAMING & EARLY PRIMETIME

πŸ“Ί Early Edition (Decades, all day): LOOK TO THE FUTURE for $400: On this TV show, Kyle Chandler knows the future because he gets his newspaper a day ahead (19 Sep 1997)

πŸ“Ί The Equalizer (NBC.com, now): Maybe before you get to the Top Pick, you want to see the original. You can stream all 4 seasons of the 1980s Edward Woodward-starring action crime series on NBC's website - but not Peacock.✔️

πŸ“Ί Family Ties (Antenna TV, 6 p.m.): Elyse's advice to Mallory's pregnant friend backfires when she decided to help talk with mom. I really like this early episode.

πŸ“Ί Sanford and Son (TV One, 8 p.m.): It's the three-part Hawaii episode! FWIW, the episodes are terrible, easily the worst of the series.

⭐ The Equalizer (CBS, 10 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. Robyn McCall, an enigmatic former CIA operative, must use her extensive skills to help a teenager accused of murder and on the run from the criminals who framed her for the crime. Remember those Denzel movies?? They were barely mediocre. I think it's also worth noting that the original series, which was never a ratings hit, had a rough start.✔️
