What's On Tonight (Sunday): Unleashing your inner demon is how to date Natalie Dormer

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels (via Tumblr)
Hi hi hi! An attempt to answer the great question from our AV Club years means watching Showtime's Penny Dreadful sequel that features Natalie Dormer as the supernatural demon Magda. She is pulling a lot of strings and wearing many hats in 1930s Los Angeles, which includes Nazis, police brutality against the Chicano community, a radio evangelist, and building new highways, among others. Magda is the puppetmaster of all the major conflict bubbling in this show. But actually, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels is more Nathan Lane's show with a fantastic role and performance as a Jewish detective who is trying to unravel what the local Nazis are up to and is partners with Tiago Vega, the city's first Chicano detective. In the first six episodes, the show has had its moments and even the original series had a slow first season, but this new setting doesn't seem as interested in bigger-picture world-building. Magda and the diety Santa Muerte haven't been given much exploration.

Elsewhere, on this Tony-less Sunday, 60 Minutes talks with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund president, Bruce Lee gets 30 for 30 treatment, rich people have islands that HGTV will improve, Gordon Ramsay explores more of the world, Michaela Coel returns to TV screens, and BET hosts a town hall about turning our emotions into change. It doesn't matter if you win or lose, it's what you do with your dancin' shoes, here's what's on television for tonight, Sunday, June 7!
