What's On Tonight (Wednesday): Call the fire station! There are Little Fires Everywhere!

Little Fires Everywhere (via Giphy)
Good Earth Day everyone, and welcome to What's On Tonight #2800! We did it! Congratulations everyone. But that's not all... Little Fires Everywhere is the 1,800th program to have the title of Top Pick. Tonight is the limited series' eighth and final episode, resolving the case around the young child and her birth mother vs adoptive parents. However, that is only the backdrop to drama, which pits two mothers at odds, slowly revealing how their hardships and privilege have shaped them and the prices their families are paying. It was a modest uber-soapy start that has since improved immensely. Elsewhere, it's the 50th Earth Day. To honor the milestone, PBS, Discovery, Netflix, Nat Geo, and BBC America are among the networks with special programming tonight, honoring our planet, its nature, and important people in conservation, especially Jane Goodall. Schooled also has an Earth Day episode. Also, Netflix rolls out some imported movies and an animated flick, Amy Hoggart finishes getting personal, vampires attend a Super Bowl, Anand Giridharadas gets a talk show, and Harry & Meghan get documentary treatment for the umpteenth time. (And yes, I'm still on a theme song kick.) It's been 970 days since the Kinjapocalypse and 242 days since we left Disqus Channels, so on this evening, the 213th of the 2019-2020 season, here's what's on television for tonight, Wednesday, April 22!

STREAMING / EARLY PRIMETIME

Absurd Planet (Netflix, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. Afi Ekulona narrates as Mother Nature in this nature series inspired by Wired magazine's "Absurd Creature." All the critters have a narrative voice...

Circus of Books πŸŽ₯ (Netflix, 3 a.m.): A documentary, y'all! In 1976 a couple take over an adult book store, and the store becomes the biggest distributor of gay porn in the United States.

Jeopardy! πŸ’² (Syndicated, check your local listings): Another new day, another new Jeopardy contestant defending the title.

⭐ Little Fires Everywhere (Hulu, 3 a.m.): FINALE. It's time for a big ol '90s showdown. The jury reaches a verdict which triggers a series of explosive events. Mia and Elena are ready for battle, though each has a child going in the opposite direction. Spoilers follow: Pearl is furious at Mia for her lies about money, and Izzy looks ready to leave her family thanks to Elena's inability to mold the young teen how she wants. Plus the college-bound daughter is single and pregnant. And the brothers are fighting over Pearl with the douchey one actually hooking up with her. Oh, and husband Bill knows Elena had a roommate during her brief escape to NYC. Fires are everywhere... While the miniseries started really rough, mostly because it kept too many secrets from the viewer, it is finishing strong with some quality messages on race, class, and privilege. And the title sequence is fantastic.✔️

Mrs. America (Hulu, 3 a.m.): As Stop ERA grows and gains media attention, Betty Friedan, the mother of the Feminist movement, makes it her mission to take down Phyllis.✔️

The Munsters πŸ“Ί (Cozi TV, 7 p.m.): Herman becomes a wrestler, in order to gain some extra money for Eddie's future education. I enjoy the second version of the theme song much more than the first.✔️

The Plagues of Breslau πŸŽ₯ (Netflix, 3 a.m.): In this Polish import, every day at 6 pm a serial killer kills another person. Police officer Helena Rus thinks the killings are done by one man only and decides to reveal the killer's identity by getting back in 18th century history of the city.

The Silence of the Marsh πŸŽ₯ (Netflix, 3 a.m.): In this Spanish import, a writer of crime stories discovers that reality is more criminal than the stories he writes.

The Willoughbys πŸŽ₯ (Netflix, 3 a.m.): In this animated movie, convinced they'd be better off raising themselves, the Willoughby children hatch a sneaky plan to send their selfish parents on vacation. The siblings then embark on their own high-flying adventure. Voices include Will Forte, Alessia Cara, SeΓ‘n Cullen, Maya Rudolph, Martin Short, and Jane Krakowski.

Win the Wilderness (Netflix, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. A stupid-sounding British reality show about couples trying to survive in the wilderness for the grand prize: an Alaskan home.
