Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Jan. 17

Here are today's contestants:

- Lindsay, a youth librarian from Illinois, is an escape room game master;
- Dennis, a bartender from Maine, stumped Ken Jennings at a book signing; and
- Veronica, a librarian from Oregon, had llamas help out on an Oregon hiking trip. Veronica entered the game as a four-day champ with winnings of $89,001.

Dennis entered DJ with just $800, but really turned it around, hitting DD3 and scoring on some important rebounds to lead into FJ with $19,600 vs. $10,800 for Lindsay and $7,000 for Veronica.

DD1, $800 - MONEY TALKS - In frontier general stores, this was used as a table or counter; hence "cash on" it to mean payment right away (Lindsay lost $1,500 from her score of $7,800 vs. $2,600 for Veronica.)

DD2, $1,200 - NATIONALITY PHRASES - peets.com shows you how to use the plunger when  making coffee in one of these (Lindsay won $2,500 from her total of $9,100 vs. $5,600 for Dennis.)

DD3, $1,600 - NORTH, SOUTH, EAST, WEST - You'll find this state in Australia's lower right-hand corner (Dennis won $4,000 from his score of $8,800 to take first place from Lindsay with $10,000.)

FJ - DNA MAKES NEWS - In 1993 remains of the Russian royal family killed in 1918 were confirmed by comparing their DNA to this member of the British royal family

Only Dennis was correct on FJ, adding $2,001 to win with $21,601.

Wagering strategy: Lindsay's FJ bet of $3,201 was only large enough to protect second place from Veronica in the event both players were correct and Veronica bet everything. With this bet size, Linsday gave up any chance of winning. Dennis made the predictable $2,001 wager, which would have dropped him to $17,599 with a miss, while Lindsay would have finished at $14,001 if correct.

TV troubles: No one knew the Ricky Gervais sitcom about TV actors playing bit parts, "Extras", and a clue's reference to Jim Cramer's TV show didn't lead the players to "Mad Money".

Correct Qs:
DD1 - What is the barrel(head)?
DD2 - What is French press?
DD3 - What is New South Wales?
FJ - Who is Prince Philip?
