What's On Tonight (Friday): The Expanse Just Keeps On Expanding For A 4th Season

This is What Is On for December 13th 2019

Streaming:

The Expanse (Amazon Prime): Exciting news for fans of the show (which include me as well as Helen T and Lyona and assorted others, maybe Thomas R and Brewfan????) as Amazon Prime finally launches the long ago promised continuation of the show (Season Four Baby!) dropped by Syfy a couple years back but brought back to life largely on the strength of a surprisingly healthy internet based fan campaign. (Who knew that a heavily serialized show set in space could devote such fierce loyalty?!?!? I'll certainly never underestimate a space set show's ability to keep on keepin on again!)

Grand Tour: The Seamen (oh come on--that can't seriously be the title right?)

The Runaways (Hulu): Season Three (and apparently the last one) of this Marvel show about teenage superheroes premieres

6 Underground (Netflix): Not to be outdone but the only premiere on Netflix this weekend is this enormously budgeted Michael Bey directed action movie starring Ryan Reynolds. How this didn't open on 3 thousand theaters in the summertime as almost every other one of Bey's movies has is kind of beyond me. I mean I know that Netflix has been bankrolling a lot of artsy projects that have been having trouble getting made by the studios these days with The Irishman and Marriage Story but i somehow doubt an action movie directed by Mr. Transformers Movies would have any trouble getting bankrolled by any studio! Anyways bypassing theaters is this typically insane looking action movie! Hopefully it'll play just as well on your laptop as it will in a theater with surround sound!

Meanwhile Disney Plus (as well as Apple Plus) has their usual Friday roll-out of  new episodes of their ongoing shows---1) The Mandalorian, 2) World According To Jeff Goldblum, 3) High School Musical The Show, 4)Encore, 5) For All Mankind, 6) See, 7) The Servant, and 8) The Morning Show.

Broadcast:

8:00

Hawaii 5-0 (CBS): A tourist helicopter is shot down by a missile leading to a search for a stolen artillery. This search then leads McGarrett to face down a ghost from his past---Wo Fat (WHAT?!?!?!? We watched that man die like several different times over the run of the show!!!); Adam makes a bold decision about his future with the 5-0 Team.

The Blacklist (NBC): Red and the Task Force pay a visit to a former Blacklister as an explosive confrontation leads Liz to make a critical choice. (The episode is titled simply Katrina Rostova--which leads me to believe that the charade will finally drop with you know her pretending to be Liz's new friendly neighbor and available babysitter--unless that happened last week, i didn't actually see last week's ep yet!)

American Housewife (ABC): Katie looks forward to sharing her former childhood Christmas tradition with Taylor, but a surprise visit from her mom threatens her new found holiday cheer;   (Wendie Malick as usual plays Katie's mom); Greg is blindsided by Katie's good intentions (I know he's not used to her in a good mood!); and Oliver and Anna-Kat break a family heirloom.

Friday Night Smackdown (FOX): Once again--Smackdowns Are Taken Down and Passed Around

The 88th Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade (The CW): Pre-empting Charmed and Dynasty this week is this annual parade down Hollywood Boulevard that Erik Estrada hosts. (I believe he hosted last year as well!) Dean Cain, Montel Williams, and Mario Lopez are all set to appear as well. (Triple Threat Right There!!!)

Christmas Stars (Lifetime): Erica Durance and JT Hodges star in this brand spanking new Lifetime original film about "An aspiring R and B artist thinks she's finally found her shot at getting a record deal when she partners with an amateur songwriter" (Is Lois Lane gonna sing in this??? The plot would seem to indicate that she's gonna be singing in this one)

Christmas at Dollywood (Hallmark): Not to be outdone but Hallmark Channel has a Christmas movie of its own about a singer--but this one is about a real life singer! Actually its not about the singer in question at all although Ms. Parton is listed as being in it. "An NYC event planner is tasked with organizing the annual Dollywood Christmas Celebration in Tennessee where she must overcome hostilities with the assistant manager to put together a celebration worth the name Dollywood"  Starring Nial Mather and Danica McKellar (ooh Winnie Cooper herself!!!), and oh man how'd they get her to co-star in this--Dolly Pardon!

8:30

Fresh Off the Boat (ABC): Louis tries to help Jessica with holiday planning; Eddie, Emery, and Evan find themselves on the naughty list for breaking an expensive gift. (I love it when two sitcoms that air back to back find themselves with complementary plotlines!)

Sydney To the Max (Disney): Season Two of this Disney Channel show premieres tonight with "How the Syd Stole Christmas"---With the help of the memory of her late mother and some long forgotten advice, Syd rediscovers her love of Christmas for the first time since her mom passed away. (I had forgotten how every plot on this show is about Syd trying to get over the loss of her recently deceased mother---this honestly feels like it should be aired back to back with The Unicorn!)

9:00

Magnum PI (CBS): Magnum is called up from the reserves for a top secret mission, but his friends are stunned when they learn that the mission is a lie, and that Magnum is actually being set up. (OH NOOOO!!!) Will they be able to save ol' Mags in time or will it be cliffhanger city for this show going into the Christmas break?!?!?!?

Dateline (NBC): After Tina Sandoval disappears, her parents and loved ones spend years searching for her, but a secret she had been keeping may lead to clues about what happened to her.

20/20 (ABC): The life of disgraced media mogul Lou Pearlman, including his role in one of the biggest Ponzi schemes in history, his blimp business (?!?!?!?), how he got involved on the boy band scene (That's where i know him from!), and how he led authorities on an international manhunt. (Huh, he led a far more exciting life than i had ever thought he had before)

No Passport Required (PBS): This show that i have never heard of before comes back for a 2nd season tonight. (Yay!!!) This time they look at The Filipino community of Seattle, including Filipino American chefs and their influence on the city's food scene. (nods)

Mel Brooks-Unwrapped (HBO): From the classic tv show "Your Show of Shows" to movie hits "Blazing Saddles" and "Young Frankenstein", the one, the only shares his memories about his life and career with Alan Yentob who apparently is or was the creative director of the BBC. (Why this BBC guy of all guys to host this??? I dunno, why not this guy of all guys???)

How The Murray Saved Christmas (AMC): This 2014 animated hour long special is about "A cranky deli owner who does a weirdly wonderful job when he finds himself forced to fill in for Santa one year" With Jerry Stiller!!!! (How was this not an instant classic?!?!?!?)

Gabby Duran and the Unsittibles (Disney): When Gabby decides to throw a party for Jeremy at her house, things quickly get out of hand with some unexpected guests. (I'm guessing they are of the alien kind, since this is once again a show whose premise is that Gabby looks after alien offspring who happen to live in her neighborhood) (Oh right the episode is titled--get this---The Party King and Timbuk Too!)

Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives (Food): A French inspired Hawaiian hot spot that went from a hole in the wall lunch spot to a trendy new drive in destination; Also checking in with a Lebanese joint outside Dallas run by restaurant royalty. (Burger King?!?!?!?)

Gold Rush (Discovery): An engineering disaster shuts Rick down, Parker sinks a ton of money into a new claim, Terry S gets a third operation up and running, Dustin discovers a secret gold cave that could hold millions, and Fred prospects a new waterfall (Ohh Fred---Don't Go Prospecting Waterfalls, Just Stick To The Rivers And The Lakes That You're Used To!!!!)(Bazinga!)

9:30

Green Acres (MeTV): Season 6 of this show starts tonight (Fall of 1970! Fall of 1970! Fall of 1970!) with "Four city children arrive at the Douglas home for a farm vacation" (oooook)

10:00

Blue Bloods (CBS): This is a rerun episode tonight sadly. (You can still do your think tho Brewfan!): "Erin and Frank clash over new legislation from the DA's office that undermines Frank's policies already in place; Erin is at odds with Governor Mendez (Bautista from Dexter returns!);  Danny risks his badge to protect a friend from losing his job after said friend freezes up during a shootout; An officer under Jamie's command gets injured and Jamie questions whether it was his fault as commander. (I'll save you all the suspense right now--No it wasn't his fault) (CBS! CBS! CBS!)

Alicia Keys: Landmarks In Concert (PBS): Rerun from Jan of 17 finds the singer performing songs across NYC including Harlem's Apollo Theater, the Circle Line Harbor Tour, and The Unisphere in Queens (QUEENS!!!)

Van Helsing (Syfy): as the sisters make their preparations to open the portal to the Dark One; Hansen makes the ultimate sacrifice. (Hansen is Neil McDonough's character and he seemingly did an about turn in last week's episode seeming like he's gonna end being an unlikely hero after spending the season as a conflicted baddie) (also next week is the season finale, so it looks like this is gonna drag out for yet another week here!)

UFO's Secret Missions Exposed (History): In this new special "Man has always been captivated with outer space, a look at the possibility that the government has been hiding top secret space missions involving the moon and maybe even Mars" (Well i mean i did see this one astounding documentary one time called "Total Recall" my God--what they've got going on up there on Mars...it'll shock you!)

Ghost Nation (Travel): A Brooktondale NY rural farm sees a series of tragic farming accidents that could be caused by paranormal activity. (Or is it?!?!?!?)

Poinsettias For Christmas (Lifetime): Bethany Joy Lenz is a daughter who tries to help her dad's struggling florist shop make it thru the holiday season. (With John Schneider as the dad, and Sharon Lawrence as someone else!)

Christmas Under Wraps (Hallmark): Candice Cameron Bure, Brian Doyle Murray, and Larry Pine are all improbably in this one. (shrugs)

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND YOU GUYS!!!
