What's On Tonight (Monday): His Dark Materials Premieres & Antiques Roadshow Celebrates Its 500th Episode!

Dearly Beloved, We Are Gathered Here Today To Celebrate What's On Tonight November 4th 2019

8:00

The Neighborhood (CBS): As Calvin and Tina near a milestone wedding anniversary; Dave and Gemma decide to help The Butlers have everything they missed out on the first time around; Malcolm and Marty prepare a performance for their parents' anniversary. (This honestly feels like something the show should've waited several seasons to do--I mean King of Queens didn't do a renewing their wedding vows episode til Season 6!!!)

The Voice (NBC): The Knockouts Part 3; Taylor Swift is once again a mega mentor to the various coaches' contestants and helps them try to prepare their auditions. (How much mentoring do the various singers need exactly???)

9-1-1 (FOX): "When a murder weapon from a case close to Athena from the early 90s resurfaces, flashbacks to '89 show how Athena joined the LAPD and became the cop she is today" (So its an Angela Bassett: Origins Story---The episode is even titled "Athena Begins" funny enough)

Dancing With the Stars (ABC): After a first round dance to a style they have not yet performed, 7 couples compete; With 2 of the couples dancing at the same time in the same style in a Dance-Off challenge---to determine who can immediately master the unfamiliar style better. (This is like the dance competition version of trying to memorizie the dictionary and then seeing who actually memorized it better)

All American (The CW): A Rerun of the show's season premiere. (Sorry Fans, although what's more all-american than a rerun right???)

Antiques Roadshow (PBS): This special anniversary episode takes a look back at the previous 499 episodes of the show's long run. (So its a clip show then???)  Fun fact--the show started in January of 1997 (Same month that King of the Hill did!!!) and initially only did 13 episode seasons--but then in season 3 they bumped it up to 16 episodes and then in season 8 they bumped it up to 18--and then finally in season 12 they bumped it up to 20 episodes--and currently they do a full season's worth of 22-23 episodes. (I informally researched this because it feels like the show has been on forever, and thus should've done much, much, much more than merely 500 episodes, but I guess that's not the case!)

Monday Night Football (ESPN): Giants Vs. The Cowboys

8:30

Bob Hearts Abishola (CBS): Bob hires Abishola to take care of Dottie in his home while she recovers; Dottie has a hard time dealing with her new limitations and takes it out on Abishola. (So we're cranking a cranky Christine Ebersole tonight is what you're saying)

9:00

All Rise (CBS): Mark and Emily go head to head in court for the first time, things get awkward when mark must cross examine Lola's mother, who is called in as a character witness for homeless youth charged with felony vandalism.  (Lola is of course the show's main character who is the newly appointed judge whose point of view makes up that of the show--so for her mother to be called in to testify on a case is you know awkward I'm gonna guess)

Prodigal Son (FOX): Bright's quest for answers about his childhood leads him to a junkyard where he's bombarded with gunshots; Ainsley's exclusive interview with Martin takes an unexpected turn, forcing her to team up with Bright. (But how can Bright team up with Ainsley when he's in a junkyard bombarded by gunshots?!?!?!? Oh I got it--parallel dimensions!)

Black Lightning (The CW): I'm sorry to say that this is also a rerun episode of the show's season premiere. (Damn You Reruns!!!!) (Oh sure when its a show you care about Matthew, then its all "Damn You Reruns" but when its a show you don't watch, you can be all flippant about it...)

Antiques Roadshow (PBS): Back in rerun mode (The 24th season of the show doesn't officially kick-off til January) we got a rerun that takes a look at Joe Strummer's boots circa 1979; baseball player Ned Hanlon's championship pins and cufflinks circa 1895; and a 1941 Grant Wood march lithograph.

American Pickers (History): Its tattoo mania in NY as Mike and Danielle pick thru an artist's high end collection of flesh art; in Ohio, Frank and Robbie browse thru 4 stories of junk in search of hidden treasures.

Holiday Baking Championship  (Food): Somehow this Food Channel Holiday Themed Show returns for a 6th season involving people competing in a baking competition timed to the holidays. (I literally picked that up from the title of the show)

Lost Cities with Albert Lin (Nat Geo): Uncovering a lost city that predates Stonehenge by 4,000 years, Stonehenge was the "Manhattan" of its day (why is manhattan in quotation marks???) Blick Mead could hold the secret to why one of the world's most famous monuments was built. (I though Blick Mead was a person, but in googling it, I find that its actually a spring in Wiltshire England with a constant degree of 11 degrees Celsius so that it never freezes) (Nods)

His Darkest Materials (HBO): The gritty reboot of the 2007 movie "The Golden Compass" that nobody but hardcore fans of the book series that that movie was based on finally arrives (Finally???) with another lavish take on its imaginative world of animal avatars. (To be fair, i'm sure nobody was more disappointed by that Golden Compass movie than fans of the series that it was based on, so I guess they've waited long enough for someone else to try and tackle it for the screen--the only thing i think i remember about it at this point was the giant polar bear battle scene. Surely you guys remember that right? It had a friggin' polar bear dressed up for battle!)

The new made for HBO mini-series stars Dafnie Keen; Ruth Wilson; Lin-Manuel Miranda; James McAvoy; and Clarke Peters; and was directed by Tom Hooper (I'm sorry that's Oscar Winning Director Tom Hooper) and tonight's first installment has as its plot summary "Orphan Lyra Belacquas' world is upended by her long absent uncle's return from the North while the glamorous Mrs. Coulter visits Jordan College with a proposition.")

9:30

Green Acres (MeTV): An eccentric Hooterville inventor produces the world's first milkmaking machine. (Congratulations There Investor, You've Just Invented The World's First Electric Cow!) (Holy Cow!!!)

10:00

Bull (CBS): Facing the seemingly impossible task of defending a client who already confessed to accidentally killing the doctor that he blames for his mother's death. (Defending someone who's already confessed to the killing that they're being prosecuted with??? Definitely sounds like an episode of a legal procedural show right there! Hey its a good thing this is one of those then!)

Bluff City Law (NBC): Syd, Elijah, and Briana take on a pill mill owner responsible for creating an addiction epidemic in a small Tennessee town;  Jake helps George move forward in his post prison life. (Nods) (Hey Taking on the owner of a pill mill in a small southern town??? Definitely sounds like an episode of a legal prodcedural show right there! Hey its a good thing this is one of those then!)

The Good Doctor (ABC): While performing his first solo surgery, (a big professional milestone that was thwarted at the end of the last new episode that aired due to realizing that he couldn't actually do the surgery on his own due to the overly complicated nature of the surgery needed) Dr. Shaun Murphy ends up alienating a nurse which then ends up resulting in putting his entire residence in jeopardy. (Ruh-Roh); Dr. Neal Melendez disagrees with Dr. Audrey Lim on a risky surgery; and Dr. Clarie Brown spirals into self destructive behaviors. (What? She's still upset over the unexpected death of her mother??? I thought she got over that in the last episode!)

Independent Lens (PBS): "Decade of Fire" Community leaders unite to save their neighborhoods after an epidemic of fires rage from the Southern Bronx in the 70s. (Huh, I honestly thought that this was gonna end up being about the California wildfires)

Pawn Stars (History): A look at the tech achievements that streamlined 19th century production, improved transportation, and expanded science used to efficiently decimate a generation of soldiers in the early 20th century. (So the science of Warcraft then?)

Ultimate Survival WW2 (Nat Geo):  Another hour of a true life occurrence where soldiers survived some very impressive hardships and overcame due to a will to survive.

My Horror Story (Travel):

Catherine The Great (HBO): Catherine and Potemkin experience growing pains in their relationship as Potenkin's push for expansion puts him at odds with Panin. (Panin is played by Rory Kinnear!)

HAVE A GOOD START OF THE WORKWEEK ONE AND ALL.
