A Dutch syrup-filled waffle cookie.
Dutch syrup is a caramel-like syrup traditionally made from sugar beets.
It was created in the late 18th or early 19th century, as a cheap treat made from bakery leftovers.
My sister went to the Netherlands and brought some Daelmans back - they're best when you warm them over your coffee cup.
Trader Joe's has a decent offering.
