Here are today's contestants:
- Dan Laine, a software engineer from Jersey City, New Jersey;
- Wilson Li, a VP of regulatory reporting from Woodside, New York; and
- Peter McFerrin, an energy industry professional from Corona, California. Peter is a six-day champ with winnings of $147,399.
Jeopardy!
GOOD & BAD DADS IN HISTORY // SAY THE CELEB'S NAME RIGHT! // ON THE GREEN // MAGAZINES BY RECURRING FEATURE // WORDS FROM TV // THE WONDER TWINS ACTIVATE!
DD1 - $1,000 - MAGAZINES BY RECURRING FEATURE - The Talk of the Town; Shouts & Murmurs (Peter lost $1,600 down to $1,800.)
Scores at first break: Peter $1,600, Wilson $2,800, Dan $400.
Scores entering DJ: Peter $2,400, Wilson $5,200, Dan $600.
Double Jeopardy!
GEORGE-OGRAPHY // BEACH READS // SAINTS BE PRAISED // TOUCH GRASS // 5-LETTER WORDS // RAP SHEET
DD2 - $1,200 - GEORGE-OGRAPHY - This 700-square-mile wetland in southeast Georgia is the largest blackwater swamp in North America (Peter added $1,600 up to $6,000.)
DD3 - $2,000 - SAINTS BE PRAISED - Not surprisingly, this apostle is the patron saint of bookkeepers, accountants & tax collectors (Peter dropped $5,400 down to $7,800 vs. $7,600 for Wilson.)
Peter found all three DDs, missed two of them, but still managed to hold a slim lead into FJ at $11,400 vs. $10,400 for Wilson and $2,200 for Dan.
Final Jeopardy!
MEDICINE - Honoring the brother of the Greek god Thanatos, this alternative medical practice got its name in the mid-19th century
Everyone was incorrect on FJ. Wilson made a huge overbet from a close second position, which allowed Dan to come away with the lucky win. Dan dropped just $7 for a victory worth $2,193.
Final scores: Peter $1,999, Wilson $1,801, Dan $2,193.
Wagering strategy: The best play for Wilson on FJ would have been a wager of less than $6,000, which would have shut out Dan and allowed Wilson to win when Peter missed and made the expected cover bet.
Clue selection strategy: After DD2 was chosen very early in DJ, three more clues from the same category were selected, plus another top-row clue, with DD3 still on the board.
Judging the judges: For a clue about the home of the Masters golf tournament, they would not accept "Augusta" but did accept "Augusta National". According to Wikipedia, the full name is Augusta National Golf Club, also known as ANGC, Augusta National, Augusta, or the National.
Correct Qs: DD1 - Who is the New Yorker? DD2 - What is Okefenokee? DD3 - Who was St. Matthew? FJ - What is hypnotism?
