It's May Day again. I didn't' waste time winding ribbons around a May pole because I'm gay and have no interest in finding a village maiden to share my bed or a grassy glen.
No, I celebrate the Haymarket Riot along with most of the rest of the world. Like all riots in Chicago it was started by the police. All because workers wanted an 8 hour day and a weekend. People died. You'd think that this occasion would be marked in the US. But no. Everywhere but here. I try to give you a different source every year. This time it's Mayor Brandon Johnson in the Chicago Sun-Times.
