Jeopardy! recap for Fri., May 15

 Here are today's contestants:

- Valerie Fulton, an attorney from Greenville, South Carolina;

- Chayce Griffith, a professor of tree fruit physiology originally from Saline, Michigan; and

- Tristan Williams, a data scientist originally from Lincoln, Nebraska. Tristan is a seven-day champ with winnings of $132,900.

Jeopardy!

____ OF ____: LITERARY EDITION // THE ELEMENTS // A MEAT CUTE // SONG SUNG "BLUE" // THE OLD WEST // EXPRESSIONS FROM THE SPORTING WORLD

DD1 - $600 - EXPRESSIONS FROM THE SPORTING WORLD - Anything easy to answer, or more specifically, "what if the game is tied after the regulation 7 innings?" (Tristan dropped $3,000 down to $1,000.)

Scores at first break: Tristan $4,000, Chayce $3,200, Valerie $600.

Scores entering DJ: Tristan $3,200, Chayce $3,000, Valerie $1,400.

Double Jeopardy!

CIVIL WAR-ERA NUMBERS // WINGS // TV TITLE TOWNS // LET'S TALK ABOUT "X" // PEOPLES // COURT

DD2 - $2,000 - PEOPLES - Most indigenous Africans prefer Amazigh, meaning "free man", to this name derived from one the Romans used for foreigners (Chayce added $3,000 up to $10,800 vs. $4,800 for Tristan.)

DD3 - $1,200 - LET'S TALK ABOUT "X" - Examples include silent scream & working vacation (Tristan added $4,500 up to $10,500 vs. $12,000 for Chayce.)

Tristan found DD3 with exactly half of Chayce's score, chose to hold back $1,500 from his wager and was correct. As a result of Tristan not going all-in, Chayce was able to stay within two-thirds of Tristan into FJ, with Tristan at $18,900 vs. $12,800 for Chayce and $600 for Valerie.

Final Jeopardy!

PLAY CHARACTERS - This title character of an 1890 play is often called “the female Hamlet”

Only Tristan was correct on FJ, adding $6,701 to win with $25,601 for an eight-day total of $158,501.

Final scores: Tristan $25,601, Chayce $4,800, Valerie $1.

Wagering strategy: Chayce went for a big bet on FJ from within two-thirds of Tristan and with more than double of Valerie. By doing so, he forced himself to be correct on FJ to have a chance, while with a small wager, he would have won if Tristan missed without having to be correct himself.

TV troubles: No one quite figured out the abbreviated location in the title of the 2021 "back to its roots" spinoff of "CSI" is "Vegas", or the place in the title of rebooted sci-fi series set in New Mexico is "Roswell".

Correct Qs: DD1 - What is softball question? DD2 - What is Berber? DD3 - What is oxymoron? FJ - Who is Hedda Gabler?
