What's On Tonight (Friday): Why Not Take All of You?

All of You

I kind of hate giving Top Pick to the new romantic drama (with a sci-fi element) All of You since Apple is streaming it.  Apple was also supposed to be streaming the premiere of the Jessica Chastain drama, The Savant.  I guess they're afraid Nazis will stop buying iPhones?  I don't know.  Their reasoning is their own.

As for All of Me, it's a decades-spanning romance about two people, played by Imogen Poots and Brett Goldstein, who should be together but aren't because a test told her that someone else is her soul mate.  She loves her soul mate but the problem is her soul mate isn't Brett Goldstein.  My big concern is one of them will die before they ever get together.  That or they just never will.  I might have to read a story synopsis before watching.  Gotta protect my heart.

TOP PICK

🎥 All of You (Apple, 12:01 AM) 'Best friends since college, Simon (Brett Goldstein) and Laura (Imogen Poots) drift apart when she takes a test that finds her soulmate despite years of unspoken feelings between them. Over the years, as their paths cross and diverge, neither can deny the feeling that they've missed out on a life together.'

Elsewhere...

*New film The Man in my Basement has a pretty high concept: Willem Dafoe asks to rent some guy's basement for a couple months without saying why and the guy says yes.  Bad things then happen.  How can I be sympathetic toward the main character?  He invited Dafoe in!  That's breaking the first rule!  He was dead the second Dafoe grinned at him.

*There are a couple shots in the trailer for found footage horror film House on Eden where it appears something scary is going to happen and the camera just shakes like something hit it and you don't see anything.  This is what you get when you can't afford Willem Dafoe.

*I got briefly excited when I saw there is a new series called Cat's Eye.  I assumed it was a Stephen King anthology series.  Turns out it's an anime about three women who are secretly high-end art thieves.  No idea if there's an episode where they battle a tiny wall troll trying to steal some kid's breath.  And has there ever been a series or film about low-end art thieves?  Like someone running around stealing Thomas Kinkade Christmas trees?
