What's On Tonight (Thursday): The Cromulent Sister

Tonight's Top Pick is The Better Sister, premiering on Amazon. Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks star in this thriller "about the terrible things that drive sisters apart and ultimately bring them back together."


While I lament that my older sister never game me a lice check, let's see what else TV has to offer us for Thursday, May 29. All times are Eastern.

The Better Sister, 3:01 a.m., Amazon. Series premiere. "Chloe (Jessica Biel), a high-profile media executive, lives a picturesque life with her handsome lawyer husband Adam (Corey Stoll) and teenage son Ethan (Maxwell Acee Donovan) by her side while her estranged sister Nicky (Elizabeth Banks) struggles to make ends meet and stay clean. When Adam is brutally murdered, the prime suspect sends shockwaves through the family, reuniting the two sisters, as they try to untangle a complicated family history to discover the truth behind his death." Death Valley, 3:01 a.m., Britbox. Series premiere. "(It's) the unlikely crime-solving partnership between eccentric national treasure John Chapel (Timothy Spall), a retired actor and star of hit fictional detective TV show Caesar, and disarming Welsh detective sergeant Janie Mallowan (Gwyneth Keyworth). Thrown together by the murder of John's neighbor, John and Janie are an odd, yet hilarious duo with opposing instincts." Two episodes available, with four remaining in the season.

Dept. Q, 3:01 a.m., Netflix. Series premiere. "A brash but brilliant detective (Matthew Goode) leads a cold case unit in this Edinburgh-based drama by Scott Frank, the writer and director of The Queen's Gambit." Nine episodes available.

Earnhardt, 3:01 a.m., Amazon. First season finale. "One Tough Customer" and "Dale." "Dale's fame and fortune reach new heights as he pursues an eighth championship and a Daytona 500 win. But family dynamics become more complicated when the Earnhardt kids set out to follow in their father's footsteps on the track." Law & Order: Organized Crime, 3:01 a.m., Peacock. "Off the Books." "Emery and Joe are back in town, sending Stabler on a wild goose chase of false leads. Playing both sides eventually catches up with Joe. Stabler and Emery end up being one step ahead of him, sending Joe closer to a fatal endgame."
