Today's Top Pick is the 15,000th episode of Days of Our Lives, streaming on Peacock. This week's shows include the funeral for Doug Williams (Bill Hayes, left, who died in January). He is survived by longtime wife Julie Olson, who was in DOOL's very first scene (albeit not played by Susan Seaforth Hayes, right). SSH is one of the last ones left from the golden age of soaps, and if that's not Top Pick worthy, what is? (ETA: I wrote this before the news that Wayne Northrop, the OG Roman Brady, died. It's surprising how many impactful men in DOOL history have died in recent years: Joseph Mascolo, John Clarke, John Aniston, Bill Hayes, Drake Hogestyn, and now Wayne Northrop.)
STREAMING
Days of Our Lives, 3:01 a.m., Peacock. 15,000th episode. "Even as she continues dealing with the loss of her true love, Julie is caught off guard by the arrival of someone unexpected. It’s a family reunion for Jennifer, Lucas, Shawn and Ciara. Old friends are reunited after years apart when Liz Chandler pays a visit to Marlena. Meanwhile, Marie Horton (Maree Cheatham, who was in DOOL's first episode in 1965) comes home for the sad occasion. Eli tells Lani some of the more colorful details about Doug’s past." Doug's funeral is tomorrow, but I don't plan to single out DOOL each of my days this week.
Dalgliesh, 3:01 a.m., Acorn TV. Third season premiere. "Death in Holy Orders, Parts I and II." "Commander Dalgliesh (Bertie Carvel) heads to a seminary in West Sussex to investigate the bloody murder of a senior churchman. He finds that nearly everyone here had a personal grievance with the victim. And several of them are lying." Later, "A second death shakes the order. As Commander Dalgliesh uncovers a secret agenda on the part of one of his suspects, the seminary falls further into disrepute. But perhaps this is the very key to unlocking the killer's motive." Two episodes available, followed by two per week through Monday, Dec. 16.
