Unfrosted |
We have some interesting premieres today but not much that's of real interest to me. Unfrosted pretty much gets Top Pick by default. I don't expect this movie to be good, but I actually liked the trailer. I even got a couple of good laughs out of it. It's got a great cast and Seinfeld seems to really be going for it. It might be the worst thing ever, it might be the best thing ever, but regardless, it will definitely be really fucking weird.
TOP PICK
⭐๐ฅ Unfrosted (Netflix, 3:01 AM) 'Michigan, 1963. Kellogg's and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast forever. A tale of ambition, betrayal, sugar, and menacing milkmen, Unfrosted stars writer/director Jerry Seinfeld.'✔️
Elsewhere...
*Peacock has the streaming premiere of The American Society of Magical Negroes. I apparently knew nothing about this film beyond the general premise, the name, and David Allen Grier. Having watched the trailer, I now realize this movie has very little resemblance to what I thought it would be, which was along the lines of Sorry to Bother You. This has more of a whimsical quality to it, which is fitting. Too bad it's on Peacock though. I won't be heading that way again until the second season of Poker Face.
*A Disturbance in the Force, a documentary about the Star Wars Holiday Special debuts tonight on Vice. This looks less like a documentary and more like one of those The Movies That Made Us series. There's a lot of talking heads in the trailer, but not many were actually involved with the special. Still, they got Weird Al to be one of those talking heads, so who am I to complain?
*Hulu is premiering what I assumed would be Top Pick: the film Prom Dates. On paper this looks very much like a Superbad for teenage girls, but I didn't get any laughs out of the trailer at all. It's totally possible they saved the best stuff for the movie, which would be admirable, but have you ever known anyone in marketing to be admirable? I'm just going to assume I'm not the target demo and let it go.
