 Today's players in the Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament are:

- David Madden, an academic competition director from Ridgewood, New Jersey;

- Jennifer Quail, a wine-tasting consultant from Dowagiac, Michigan; and

- Amy Schneider, a writer from Oakland, California.

Jeopardy!

U.S. HISTORY // FICTION // BUS. ABBREV. // NAMED FOR A PLACE // SONG SIMILES // "J-I-T" WORDS

DD1 - 800 - NAMED FOR A PLACE - This word meaning to ramble comes from the name of a winding river in Turkey (Jennifer dropped 3,000 on a true DD.)

Scores at first break: Amy 4,800, Jennifer 2,400, David 800.

Scores entering DJ: Amy 8,400, Jennifer 1,200, David 400.

Double Jeopardy!

MOUNTAIN HIGH, VALLEY LOW // PHILOSOPHY // ASTRONOMY // AN INVITATION TO THE DANCE // MOVIES & MYTH // 3 TOUGH LITTLE LETTERS

DD2 - 1,600 - MOUNTAIN HIGH, VALLEY LOW - Most of what was once the Nubian Valley is now this lake (On the first clue of the round, David added 2,000.)

DD3 - 800 - ASTRONOMY - The "E" in NASA's T.E.S.S. satellite stands for these that it's actively looking for, whether they can support life or not (David, with 6,800 to wager, bet 5,000 to take the lead.)

Amy had a big lead after round one while David was far behind, but David quickly found both DDs in DJ to take first place. The top spot going into FJ came down to the very last 400 point clue, which Amy scored to enter FJ with 17,600 vs. 17,400 for David and 7,200 for Jennifer.

Final Jeopardy!

HISTORIC GROUPS - The Kipchak Khanate is another name for this group that was eventually defeated by Tamerlane in 1395

Amy and David were correct on FJ, with Amy adding 17,500 to advance with 35,100. Note that if David had gone all-in on DD3, he likely would have had the lead going into FJ and won the game with his correct response.

Final scores: Amy 35,100, Jennifer 0, David 17,609.

Correct Qs: DD1 - What is meander? DD2 - What is Lake Nasser? DD3 - What are exoplanets? FJ - What is Golden Horde?
