photo mine (beware of Harlan)
[This was supposed to post on December 30 but got lost in the shuffle on the way out the door}
His newspaper was there this morning. I almost didn't notice it because it just looked normal. It wasn't exactly normal because it was on a stand just outside his door. That stand is strictly against HOA rules. We're not even allowed a welcome mat and door decorations are strictly regulated. But this wasn't just anyone, this was The Senator and no one wanted to say that he couldn't bend over anymore to pick up the paper so there was a stand outside his door.
I was also used to the paper being there because he was always up and out before paper delivery. He had already gone out for breakfast and was working on the day ahead. I'm going to think of him that way until someone buys his units (half of my floor) and starts the construction that will remind me every day.
It all seems so impersonal. They've started bringing out his stuff. I don't know what or why. I guess his papers must go to a library somewhere - Marquette? Madison? I have no idea what his will looks like since he had no obvious benefactors. The only reason that I can think of to move fast is if the estate does not want to keep paying condo fees for a four unit penthouse.
The only one that I've really talked to is one of his aides. I've talked to her a few times over the years and it took a while to overcome her shyness. She's a Russian immigrant - but don't even begin to think spy. She came along after the Senate. The way she would talk about him it always seemed like she felt blessed to work for him.
I was happy that he was my neighbor - and I hope she was in his will because she's kind of been my neighbor for a long time already.
Political discussion welcome.
