What's On Tonight (Friday): Scott Pilgrim is Here to Make You Think About Death and Get Sad and Stuff...

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

I love Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.  I wish it had come out when I was younger as it would have easily been my favorite thing ever.  Unfortunately, I was very much an adult by the time it was released, but that didn't stop me from loving every minute of it.

My curiosity was piqued when I saw a new series based on the original comics was coming out on Netflix.  Then I saw the original cast of the film were reprising their roles, and not just some of them, ALL OF THEM.  Edgar Wright is one of the producers here, so I'm sure he was instrumental in getting the gang back together.

The odd thing is this is not a new story.  This is very much the same story already told in the comics and the film.  It seems odd to get the whole film cast back together just to re-tread the same ground, but I don't care.  If it's half as fun as the film, it will a great time for all.

TOP PICK

๐ŸŽธ Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (Netflix, 3:01 AM) SEASON ONE. 'Scott Pilgrim meets the girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers, only to find out her seven evil exes stand in the way of their love.  Featuring the cast of Scott Pilgrim vs the World reprising their roles.  Executive produced by Edgar Wright.'✔️

Elsewhere...

*Apple has another series premiering today that is making renewing my subscription necessary.  Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is set in the world of the American Godzilla and King Kong films.  It stars Kurt Russell and his son, Wyatt Russell, playing the same character but decades apart.  There's a lot of monsters in the trailer but everything I've read is that this is much more human focused.  And apparently, it's actually good!  Who woulda thunk it?

*Amazon has a new documentary on the life of Tyler Perry.  I haven't seen any of his films or TV shows.  The main thing I know about him is he found a lot of early success with touring productions of his plays that mostly played to black audiences.  I primarily know about them because he apparently refused to hire union actors.  As a former union actor, I still have a problem with that.

*AMC+ has the streaming premiere of Biosphere, starring Sterling K Brown and Mark Duplass.  This is not to be confused with Biodome, which starred Pauly Shore and Stephen Baldwin.  Do we have the makings of a shared Bio-space universe?  I would enjoy seeing Brown and Duplass acting off of Shore.  Who wouldn't?

*Netflix has a new documentary called The Dads.  It follows four fathers of trans kids who go on a fishing trip with the father of Matthew Shepard.  They discuss their fears and hopes for their kids.  A few weeks ago, Netflix premiered the Bo Burnam directed film, Old Dads.  I don't know if anyone will confuse the two titles, but my feeling is people who are fans of the latter film will not be big on the documentary.
