Welcome to Sportsball! Baseball is over, hockey and basketball have started their marathon seasons, and football is entering crunch time for the playoffs. So lets look at some Olympics-related stories.
Today's NFL stars seem gung-ho for Olympic Flag Football in 2028, but how many them are still going to be in playing shape by then? (CBC) I really have no idea how they build teams for "professional" flag football but it would seem to me you would want a QB and a bunch of Tight Ends that can both catch passes and provide defensive coverage.
A lot of people seem irrationally angry about this proposal to stage an Olympics-style competition where athletes can use whatever pharmaceuticals they want to gain a competitive advantage. (CNN) Maybe I'm just cynical because of all the reprehensible behavior from numerous sport governing bodies in the past decade or so .
Sliding events at the 2026 Olympics will take place in Austria or Switzerland after the IOC halted a last-ditch effort by Italy to fund refurbishment of the mothballed track used for Torino 2006. (CBC) The IOC seems to be doing something smart for once in discouraging wasteful spending on infrastructure that won't see sustained use once the games are over.
Did everyone survive the change back to standard time?
