No one can quite figure out why the Conservatives are opposed to updates to the Canada-Ukraine trade deal that all stakeholders want implemented. Their claims that Canada is imposing a Carbon Tax on Ukraine is weaksauce; Ukraine has had carbon pricing for over a decade and is actually trying to expand the program in the midst of the Russian invasion. In any event, it seems like an unforced error that's allowed other parties to ask if they're getting marching orders from MAGA Republicans. (CBC)

On Friday I was a bit befuddled as to why the Thai PM was announcing the release of hostages in Israel, but it turns out 54 of the hostages are migrant workers from Thailand, brought in to Israel as part of a policy to limit Palestinian labor and further reduce the need to engage in meaningful peace talks (Quartz)
