Welcome to the winter doldrums. This is a time of reruns and unexpected mid-season replacements. We'll open and close with reruns. I'm running out of ways to laugh at Kevin McCarthy. Could there be anything that would make it more obvious that he is unfit to lead the unruly House of Representatives than that he has now lost ELEVEN votes for Speaker? Oh yeah, it's turtles all the way down. [CBS]
Now for something completely different: the South Carolina Supreme Court tossed the "fetal heartbeat" law in a widely disputed decision. Five opinions have been issued, that's one for each justice. The bigger news? The US Supreme Court can't touch this because it's based on state law. [Charleston Post and Courier]
Another unexpected story: The Federal Trade Commission wants to eliminate non-compete clauses. That's that thing that you have to sign to get a job that prevents you from doing exactly what you are qualified to do for anyone else and traps you in what you didn't know was a dead end job. [Associated Press]
And we're back to reruns. The Federal Reserve Board thinks that the banks will be more responsible with your money than you - or maybe they just think that the banks deserve your money more than you. [CNBC]
Political discussion welcome
