What's on Tonight (Friday): Time to Get Baked (British Style)...

The Great British Baking Show

This week's Top Pick is The Great British Baking Show because what else could it possibly be?  Reality competition shows are not my cup of tea, but TGBBS is the exception.  It might be the most relaxing show since The Joy of Painting.  And no, it's not as good as the earlier seasons, but it's still really enjoyable and fun.  Your tolerance for Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas may vary.

Elsewhere...

*Amazon has Goodnight Mommy, one of the most unnecessary remakes ever.  I mean, the Australian original was made in 2014.  Hell, the lead of the remake is Naomi Watts, who is also Australian!  She could have starred in the original!  Does Amazon not know that Australians speak English too?  Do they think Australians are a bunch of incomprehensible drunks with their boomerangs and shrimp barbies and what not?  Wait... I just found out the original was actually an Austrian film.  My point stands.

*Netflix has Drifting Home, a new anime series about a bunch of kids drifting across the ocean on an apartment building.  I'm assuming they'll be rescued by the crew of the Crimson Permanent Assurance.

*Speaking of Netflix, they have NINE series and movies premiering today.  The wall Netflix throws everything at in anticipation of something sticking must be the size of Jupiter.

*Roku has Heathers: The Musical, which was recorded live on stage.  My main takeaway from the trailer: the guy playing the Christian Slater role isn't working.  Can we get Patinkin in this?  I know he's a little old, but the guy can make anything work, and he has the singing voice of a goddamn angel.

I finally started Ted Lasso this week.  My assumption after the first few episodes is Ted is actually a cult leader looking to set up a new sect in England.  By the end of the first season, I'm expecting human sacrifices and blood orgies.  This shit is going to get dark; I just know it.
