Welcome to the 2022 Creative Arts Emmy Awards post! This post covers all the categories of the two ceremonies that comprise this year's Creative Arts Emmys. The other half of the categories will be awarded tomorrow.
2022 CREATIVE ARTS EMMY AWARDS
Saturday Recap: It wasn't a strong night for repeat winners with Saturday Night Live ending streaks in directing and production design, and RuPaul's Drag Race with no repeats in directing, casting, or editing. However, Last Week Tonight, Carpool Karaoke, and Queer Eye kept up their streaks in key categories. RuPaul also 7-peated for host, so don't count it out for Competition Program. He is also the most awarded person of color in Emmy history with 12 Emmys. The Beatles: Get Back and Adele: One Night Only went 5-for-5. Saturday Night Live has nothing.
Sunday Recap: Abbott Elementary pulls a huge win with casting. But it didn't have a sound mixing or editing nomination, which are (historically) important factors in series predictions. The White Lotus and Stranger Things did incredibly well, though none were surprising. Squid Game took 4, which is better than expected and includes an acting award. On the other hand, Better Call Saul and Ted Lasso walk away empty handed. There was also a lot of fresh blood in many categories, though not necessarily as in new shows becoming Emmy winners, rather shows winning in crafts they'd never won previously. Top nominees going into next week: Euphoria, Stranger Things, The White Lotus (5); Squid Game (4); Barry, Only Murders in the Building (3); A Black Lady Sketch Show, Hacks, Severance (2)
