What's On Tonight (Friday): Sisters are Murdering for Themselves...

 

Bad Sisters

I am a big fan of the Amazon series Catastrophe.  It's one of my favorite on-screen depictions of marriage (The Americans is another).  Sharon Horgan was the star as well as one of the creators and writers of that series, and now she has a new series on Apple about five Irish sisters who may or may not have killed one sister's husband.  This dark comedy was filmed in Ireland (a country where more things should be filmed), and I'll definitely be checking it out.

Elsewhere, lots of promising stuff this week...

*Freevee has a new series from Greg Garcia (creator of Raising Hope) that also looks good.  When a bunch of inmates are released due to COVID, they join together to steal from those who deserve it.  Who deserves it?  Who doesn't deserve it?

*Netflix has a new German series about a former spy killer who seeks revenge on those who had her arrested and thrown in prison.  The premise sounds dark, but the trailer looks fun, and I am always a sucker for ass-kicking women.

*Paramount has new horror sequel Orphan: First Kill.  This film looks neither fun nor good, but reviews are surprisingly good for a horror sequel (67% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes as of Thurs afternoon).  The thing that really throws me is Julia Stiles is in this.  Remember Julia Stiles?  Perhaps I've completely misjudged this whole thing.  Nah.

I finished The Sandman.  I thought the first half of the season was great and "24/7" was damn near perfect.  The second half of the season didn't do as much for me.  I'll be there for season two, but I hope it's more "no more lies" and less "serial killer convention."
