Well, this is more like it. As opposed to last week, when the pickings were so slim that Bridgerton of all things managed to get the Top Pick call, this week we have a nice assortment of new shows and movies to choose from. It was difficult to choose which one to go with, but after careful deliberation, I'm going with Netflix's The Bubble. Your mileage may vary with Judd Apatow films but it's tough to deny this cast: Karen Gillan, Pedro Pascal, Leslie Mann, Keegan-Michael Key, David Duchovny, Fred Armisen, Maria Bamford, Kate McKinnon, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rob Delaney, Peter Serafinowicz, and probably a bunch more who aren't credited.
Yes, it's going to be too long, and I kind of wish they had made the fake movie instead of making a movie about making a fake movie, but the trailer looks good and there's gotta be some funny stuff in there. Just fast forward past the bits that don't work.
Other Top Pick contenders who couldn't quite take the taco include the Amazon Prime Gary Oldman-starring MI5 series, Slow Horses. HBO Max does the European vacation thing with Polish murder mystery show, The Thaw, and Hungarian spy thriller The Informant. Netflix has The Last Bus, the plot of which seems very similar to The Mitchells vs the Machines, and Captain Nova, the plot of which seems very similar to The Adam Project. Netflix may have finally hit the content singularity.
It's a regular Shoney's buffet this week so wear your comfy pants and prepare for a swollen belly of sweet, sweet entertainment.
