What's On Tonight (Friday): Silent Night, Holy Night, All is Calm, Because Everyone is About to Die...

via PicMix

I'm not 100% behind tonight's Top Pick.  There just isn't anything today that's standing out for me.  There's not even anything I can pretend I'll probably watch because I am nothing if not honest.  We've got the end of Pen15, a show I have considered picking up but there's usually something else I'd prefer to watch.  Showtime has You're Watching Video Jukebox, which would normally be the kind of documentary I'd be into, but, like 99.99% of the country, I do not have Showtime.  Netflix is wrapping up Money Heist, which looks good, and I've been meaning to give it a shot, but I just haven't gotten there yet.

That leaves me with Silent Night.  I don't have AMC+ but it's tough for me to deny that I am intrigued by this film.  A film about people spending what they know will be their last Christmas together due to a global catastrophe seems a bit on the nose given recent events but it's got Keira Knightly and it's the only Christmas-related offering this weekend that interests me in the slightest.  I will say this, considering the global catastrophe is a poison gas cloud, at least one character better exclaim "Stupid, cheap weather stripping!" once if not multiple times over the course of the film.

Oh, and Hallmark has a Hannukah movie.  I'm sure those of the Jewish faith are thrilled.

TOP PICK

🎅🎥 Silent Night (AMC+, 3:01 AM) 'Silent Night follows parents Nell (Keira Knightley) and Simon (Matthew Goode) who have invited their closest friends to join their family for Christmas dinner at their idyllic home in the English countryside. As the group comes together, it feels like old times -- but behind all of the laughter and merriment, something is not quite right. The world outside is facing impending doom, and no amount of gifts, games or Prosecco can make mankind's imminent destruction go away.'
