Totally Tunes: Goodbye, Lovers and Friends

So, as you've probably read in last week's article, I'm stepping down from Totally Tunes. We'll be seeing each other around this Pop Culture neighborhood, don't worry about that, but from next week on there will be another byline on this column and I'm very happy that we've got volunteers and y'all were ready to give Totally Tunes a brand new loving owner. It's been a hoot to share themes and songs with you all, and to see your replies and tunes, in this time after I took over from Sassy. Now, let's get into a very on-topic topic, one last time with moi at the helm!

It took me like 25 scrolls to find a decent picture. Stay useless, Pexels!

As par for the course, let's start with the song that gives this article its name, a fun, albeit very confusing musically-wise Franz Ferdinand tune from their last good album (sorry not sorry).

Let's jump now to something a bit more gloomy, with this Placebo track that just screams depressing through and through, from the perspective of someone watching a loved one wither away (to drugs possibly, it's always drugs with Placebo).

DID ANYONE SAY THE SOUND OF MUSIC?!?!?!?!

One of my favorite covers from the Another Day, Another Time special is this Bob Dylan tune, done with the music of Punch Brothers and the voice of Marcus Mumford. If there's a tune to listen in this overextended departing article, it's this one:

It wouldn't be me if I didn't try to squeeze one last Manics track here somewhere, so why not give it one last go? Even though some fans presume to be Richey's suicide note turned into song lyrics, the band insists it's not, but its haunting Edwards-penned prose still puts us in a place of a very sad departure.

Ok, one last one! Once more, it wouldn't be a Whistler Totally Tunes if it wasn't closing with either Bowie or Sir Elton, so let's make this column proud and remain both in-topic and on-brand by *tosses coin*...

What's your favorite song about saying goodbye, leaving, or departing? Hope you've had a great musical time with me at the helm of this feature, see you around!
