What's On Tonight (Wednesday): Loki solemnly swears that he is up to no good

Loki

We are at the 2021 halfway point! Here's what's on television for tonight, Wednesday, June 30!

A cheer to Disney+ for providing a Top Pick option (and more D+ Wednesday releases are soon to arrive). Tonight we enter the back-half of Loki, which has six episodes in this first season. Last week, Loki and Sylvie went on an adventure in a story that I didn't think worked with the series' narrative, leaving behind the TVA but maybe getting themselves killed as a planet and moon near a collision.

Elsewhere, the bat man and his bats get some spotlight, The Bold Type comes in for landing, Dave meets Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, America gets Motion Picture treatment, another unsolved murder arrives on Netflix, Josh Gates talks about UFOs, Sherry Yard visits MasterChef, first responders Press their Luck against Whammies, and a Brady Bunch classic gets Drag Race treatment.

STREAMING & EARLY PRIMETIME

30 Days With: Bretman Rock (YouTube, noon): SERIES PREMIERE. That's a lot of days.

πŸŽ₯ America: The Motion Picture (Netflix, 3 a.m.): From the Frisky Dingo creator Matt Thompson, a "chainsaw-wielding George Washington teams with beer-loving bro Sam Adams to take down the Brits in a tongue-in-cheek riff on the American Revolution." Pass.✔️

Dragging the Classics: The Brady Bunch (Paramount+, 3 a.m.): SPECIAL.  Contestants from RuPaul's Drag Race and cast members of The Brady Bunch get together to recreate the classic season two episode "Will the Real Jan Brady Please Stand Up?" Eve Plumb will be there. Maureen will not.

πŸ’² Jeopardy! (Syndicated, check local listings): Sanjay is rather dry, but he's okay. Very Okay.

⭐ Loki (Disney+, 3 a.m.): The misadventures Loki and Not-Loki continue. But I wonder what the planet is that's crashing into the moon, Lamentis-1. It can't be the planet that Lamentis-1 orbits because if the moon got too close to it, its gravitational force would rip it apart.

πŸŽ₯ Lost in Space (HBO Max, now): This terrible 1998 movie, an attempted update on the campy 1960s sci-fi drama, is one of the few titles leaving a streamer this month and isn't already available elsewhere.

🍽️ Occasional Cooks (What's On Tonight & Pop Culture, 7 p.m.): What have you been making in your kitchen lately? Want some inspiration? Check out our weekly food thread!

πŸŽ₯ Prime Time (Netflix, 3 a.m.): In this Polish film, "on New Year's Eve 1999, an armed man enters a TV studio during a broadcast, takes the host hostage and makes one demand: to give a message live on air."

Somos. (Netflix, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. From Mexico, the "lives of the people of Allende, a Mexican border town, are overtaken by a powerful cartel's operations, leading to tragedy. Inspired by true events."

Sophie: A Murder in West Cork (Netflix, 3 a.m.): COMPLETE SERIES. Because we love watching stuff about murders, a "look at the life of Sophie Toscan du Plantier, and an investigation into her death in 1996." The case remains unsolved.

Strive (YouTube, noon): SERIES PREMIERE. Gold medalist Gabby Douglas hosts this six-part docuseries about the men and women forced to flee their countries as refugees all while training for the opportunity to compete in Tokyo 2020. The refugee athletes now compete either under the Olympic Refugee Flag or under a new flag after finally settling in a host country.

BRIEFLY: πŸ’² America Says (GSN, 7 p.m.); The House My Wedding Bought (Discovery+, 3 a.m.); Red Table Talk (Facebook, noon); Too Hot to Handle (Netflix, 3 a.m., season finale); Too Large (Discovery+, 3 a.m.)

Dogs with Extraordinary Jobs (Smithsonian Channel, 8 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. I'm sure they are good at their jobs and all, but I wanna know what kind of playlist these dogs can sing and dance to.

Kung Fu (The CW, 8 p.m.): Nicky offers to help Evan when the case he's working on takes a turn. Ryan decides to officially introduce Joe as his boyfriend to his parents.

Nature (PBS, 8 p.m.): An ecologist, the bat man of Mexico, tracks the lesser long-nosed bat's epic migration across Mexico, encountering hurricanes, snakes, Mayan tombs and cockroaches, in an effort to save the species and the tequila plants they pollinate.

UFOs Declassified: Live (Discovery Channel / Science / Travel Channel, 8 p.m.): SPECIAL. Josh Gates hosts a three-hour live panel of experts to unpack and weigh in on the long-awaited Department of Defense and Office of the Director of National Intelligence report about Unidentified Flying Objects, recently released to Congress.πŸ‘½πŸ›ΈπŸ‘½πŸ›Έ
