What's On Tonight (Wednesday): We Peacock Shawn & Gus

Psych 2: Lassie Come Home
Hi, I'm Amadeus3000. My writing partner Ghee Buttersnaps is unable to make it tonight but hopefully fellow WOT writer Matthew Stechel, aka Satthew Mtechel aka Hollabackatcha, aka Chesterfield McMillan and wife, will drop in later. Tonight, yet another company dives into the streaming wars: Comcast's NBCU with Peacock. The biggest new title in its launch is the second Psych movie, Psych 2: Lassie Come Home, a new chapter in the occasional later adventures of Shawn Spencer and Burton Guster. For eight seasons, the duo charmed audiences as a novice sleuth, who conned the local police into thinking he has psychic powers, and his (reluctant) assistant/best friend. The light-hearted show does frequent homage to pop culture of all ages within its comedic spin on the buddy show and the procedural detective genre.... As for Peacock, it offers about half of its library for free with commercials and for those willing to pay, there are two premium options that access the rest of the library. At 25,000 hours, its library is quite large, including some non-Comcast properties. Highlights include Law & OrderColumboEverybody Loves RaymondLeave It to Beaver, The Carol Burnett Show, and 30 Rock for TV and Back to the Future, Jaws, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Bridesmaids, and The Godfather. You will also be able to stream NBC shows next-day and NBC's late night offerings will be available to stream in primetime hours. [*affiliate grumble*] The first run slate is somewhat limited. You'll have to wait for originals A.P. Bio, Saved by the Bell, Punky Brewster, and The Amber Ruffin Show. Eh... I signed up for it.

ElsewherePsych 2 is just one of several original titles on Peacock. For kids, there's the Curious George and Where's Waldo? revivals and Cleopatra in Space. For unscripted viewing, Ryan Lochte and auto speedways get documentary treatments. Other scripted options include small screen treatment for Aldous Huxley's masterpiece Brave New World, Holliday Grainger uncovering a criminal conspiracy, and NSA agent David Schwimmer going to the UK. Off Peacock, ABC debuts a new sitcom, sharks congregate in the Atlantic, and American Soul wraps up its season.

We Peacock Comedy, here's what's on television for tonight, Wednesday, July 15!

STREAMING & EARLY PRIMETIME

Brave New World (Peacock, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. Based on the classic book, a utopian society achieves peace and stability through the prohibition of monogamy, privacy, money, family, and history itself. It stars Jessica Brown Findlay, Harry Lloyd, Alden Ehrenreich, and Hannah John-Kamen✔️

Shaun returns to his old life, but a night out takes a turn for the worse. Det. Holliday Grainger is keen to get to the bottom of Shaun's mysterious past, but soon begins to uncover a complex conspiracy.✔️

Cleopatra in Space (Peacock, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. For the kids... It the untold story of Cleopatra's teenage years. Follow Cleo as she is transported 30,000 years into the future, to an Egyptian-themed planet that is ruled by talking cats and where she discovers she is the prophesied savior of the future world. This is not a prequel to Cleopatra 2525.

In Deep with Ryan Lochte (Peacock, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. A docuseries about United States Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte. He is a person, like you and me!

Intelligence (Peacock, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. No, this isn't a revival of the horribly boring CBS drama. In this British comedy import, NSA agent David Schwimmer is assigned to act as liaison to the cyber crimes unit in the UK's Government Communications Headquarters, quickly antagonising the unit's chief.✔️

Lost Speedways (Peacock, 3 a.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. Dale Earnhardt Jr. goes looking for lost speedways. Probably.

Later, the Sharks do a big musical number and snap their fins to the beat as they face down rivals.

Snapped (Oxygen, 8 p.m.): While I wouldn't normally list this series with a full episode description, this special presentation is about Betty Broderick, so it might be of interest to anyone who watched season two of Dirty John on Oxygen's sister network USA.

Truth or Dare ๐ŸŽฅ (FX, 8 p.m.): Still sad about the cancellation of Katy Keene? Well you shouldn't be; it was a terrible show. But if you have a Lucy Hale fix, here is a horror movie about a game of Truth or Dare that goes very badly.

United We Fall (ABC, 8 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. This summer family sitcom looks terrible. It's about parents (Will Sasso, Christina Vidal) who don't really have it together. Let the hijinks begin! Palm Swings ๐ŸŽฅ (The Movie Channel, 1:30 a.m.): I have no idea what this 2019 movie is other than its description -- "After moving to Palm Springs, a young married couple are surprised to learn that neighbors are swingers" -- and it might be one of those Skinemax-esque movies, but this is a PSA that it is not the Hulu movie. That would be Palm Springs.

Up in the Air ๐ŸŽฅ (Starz Encore, 12:40 a.m.): Ryan Bingham enjoys living out of a suitcase for his job, travelling around the country firing people, but finds that lifestyle threatened by the presence of a potential love interest, and a new hire.
