What's On Tonight (Wednesday): Brockmire is keeping it Brockmire

Brockmire (via Giphy)
Greetings one and all and welcome to another Wednesday edition of What's On Tonight! Tonight's focal point is the series finale of IFC's offbeat baseball-ish comedy Brockmire. The season takes place in the early 2030s in a world ravaged by climate crisis and society barely holding together. Yet Jim Brockmire (Hank Azaria), the drunken, silver-tongued MLB announcer who mounted a career comeback, made friends, got sober, became a dad, and then became the commissioner of baseball, is still a point of hope. It is an odd season — and one that might hit too close to home for some — and the pacing can be bizarre with time jumps to tell a story quickly, but this is how Jim finds his happy ending. Elsewhere, energy vampire Colin Robinson gets a promotion, Jughead wants to go to the University of Iowa, a sex cult drama gets a wider viewing, Steve Backshall is back on the adventure trail, and hidden cameras get uber-up close and personal with squirrels, beavers, and butterflies. Babe Ruth himself, the very greatest of the greats, was also a big fat piece of shit, so here's what's on television for tonight, Wednesday, May 6!

⭐ Brockmire (IFC, 10 p.m.): SERIES FINALE. Last week, Jim and Jules got married and stopped a players strike at the last minute but he was also diagnosed with Parkinson's. The season has been a final epilogue on Jim's long recovery. Jules (Amanda Peet) came back, willing to charge her drug-fueled lifestyle, and his daughter has been that voice in his ear he's long needed. And Hank Azaria as the title character is a treat to watch in every episode. In this bonkers-sounding series finale, artificial intelligence threatens to take steps in its pursuit to rule the world and attempts to take over baseball. I guess Limon finally decided the time was right to take over, which has been hinted at previous. Jim and Jules must decide if they want to embolden this emerging society ruled by machines or stay with the failing status quo.

What We Do in the Shadows (FX, 10 p.m.): In what is sure to be a hilarious episode, Colin Robinson gets promoted at work, and his new power threatens the balance of power in the vampire house.✔️
