Hello all, tonight we unexpectedly part ways with the 21st century reboot of Hawaii 5-0 which I personally enjoyed a great amount. It could be over the top at times, and somewhat formulaic at others, but I always appreciated how reliable it was as a show--especially after it got moved to Friday nights in its 4th season which essentially gave it a longer shelf life I think as it became a pretty dependable Friday night staple for a lot of people.
I will most especially miss the MacGarrett/Danno banter, Scott Caan whom I still say resembles his father quite a bit in both looks and acting style, i thought his continually somewhat combative arguing did a good job in driving the show at times---like when he would start poking at MacGarrett--i liked how the show would sometimes seem to be attuned to their conversational rhythms in-between the various action scenes, like the beats of their banter could sometimes shape the scenes of them in the car. I don't know, I found it enjoyable. I also loved it when the show would blow out their budget once or twice a year and do a completely bat crazy action episode like the time they battled ghost pirates! (what??? exactly!) This Is What's On for April 3rd 2020
Streaming:
Netflix has something called StarBeam premiering tonight. (Oh its an animated kids superhero show--ehh)
Amazon Prime has something called "Tales From the Loop" which looks like a syfy drama anthology show (ooh Rebecca Hall is in it) exploring "The mind-bending adventures of the people who live above the Loop--a machine built to unlock and explore the mysteries of the universe, making things previously thought of as only science fiction a reality" (What???) (I mean i'll definitely check it out but that description--what???)
Hulu has the 3rd season of "Future Man" which is a syfy comedy that stars Josh Hutcherson as a janitor who travels thru time to try and save Earth from aliens (wait that's the plot?!?!?) ooh Eliza Coupe is also in it!
Apple TV has a new show called "Home Before Dark" which is about "a girl moves to a lakeside town where her father once lived, while there she unearths a cold case that everyone including her father once tried to bury" (So its exactly like Nancy Drew then???) Starring Brooklynn Prince (as the girl of course) and Jim Sturges, Joelle Carter, and ooh Michael Weston! (No not the guy from Burn Notice, the actual actor named Michael Weston) Created by Dana Fox who previously created the Fox sitcom "Ben and Kate" (hmm!) but also wrote the screenplays to several not so good rom-coms including "What Happens In Vegas" (Well work is work!)
Apple TV also has the last episode of the first season of their Amazing Stories reboot on tap for tonight as well.
Disney Plus has two new animal themed documentaries---"Dolphin Reef" and "Elephant" (Both of which are from the ongoing yearly series of Disney nature documentaries that they release every year around this time--usually they get a theatrical release, but with theaters having been shut down, Disney is lucky to have a streaming service to put them onto!)
Disney Plus also has Episode 7 of the latest season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars on tap for tonight as well.
Broadcast:
MacGuyver (CBS): After Oversight is almost killed in a bombing, he recruits Mac to find the bomber; Mac also meets his Aunt Gwendolyn. (I wanna say Oversight is Mac's dad--played by Tate Donnovan--right? which would make this somewhat awkward since Mac and his dad aren't on speaking terms currently--but that'll probably change, unless they do a completely silent episode!)
The Blacklist (NBC): The Task Force investigates a series of attacks on data centers perpetrated by a Blacklister with a peculiar condition; Liz conducts a secret investigation on the side; Glen desperately tries to prove his value to Red after a shipping mishap. (Glen is getting his own plotline tonight?!?!? GLEN?!?!?!?)
Shark Tank (ABC): Reinventing the traditional house slipper as a sneaker, an online mentoring program that helps high school students and their parents navigate the college admissions process; a bedding product that reduces the time needed to make a bed. (How long does it take people to make a bed exactly???)
Friday Night Smackdown (FOX): Smackdowns are given out, handed down, and yes... passed around. (Use Smackdowns only as prescribed by your physician!)
Charmed (The CW): The Charmed Ones must all join forces with Parker when Mel is endangered in the demon world; Harry and Jordan infiltrate the Faction with dangerous consequences. (And Sexy Results?!?!?!?)
RuPaul's Drag Race (VH1): The drag queens compete in the legendary Snatch Game (?!?) Jonathan Bennett and Daniel Franzese guest judge, and Miss Vanjie appears as well. (nods)
Sydney To the Max (Disney): She enters a song writing contest. (Classic sitcom plotline right there!)
A Christmas Duet (Hallmark): "Fate brings the two people who used to be a musical duo back together after years apart in a small town just days before that town's annual Christmas concert" (And Will there be love for them to find??? Well they're apparently two guys....sooo maybe???)
9:00
Hawaii 5-0 (CBS): Danny is abducted and badly wounded by Wo Fat's wife who is after the cypher that MacGarrett's mom left for him after her death; Steve finally solves the long unsolved case his dad left him when he was killed on the island 10 years ago (which is how the show started!!!) ALOHA 5-0!!!! I'LL MISS HAVING YOU AS A FRIDAY NIGHT RITUAL!!!!
Dateline (NBC): When Dr. Teresa Stevens is found murdered in her kitchen, detectives struggle to find any leads until an unexpected tip changes everything. (Everything?!?!?!?)
20/20 (ABC): A former Uber driver terrorizes the city of Kalamazoo for 8 hours on a February night in 2016 killing six people and injuring dozens more. (Yikes)
Dynasty (The CW): Fallon and Liam decide parenthood isn't so bad and work to persuade Heidi to try and keep Conner close by; Blake and Crystal get charitable; Alexis recruits Adam to help with Jeff's illness; and Sam gives Kirby and opportunity to prove herself. (The episode is titled "Is the Next Surgery On the House?" which once again i think is a pretty solid episode title)
Somewhere South (PBS): "Porridge For the Soul" (Speaking of solid episode titles!) "A dinner honors Edna Lewis, how black people contributed to Southern Cuisine, and how porridge has become a Southern favorite over the years. (OK!)
Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives (Food): Beef tenderloins in Utah, and also in Utah (More precisely in Logan Utah) a place that is known for its tomato saltados and a peanut butter burger. (Peanut Butter Burger?!?!?!?)
Pawn Stars (History): Rick flies to England for an explosive chance to test out antique weapons; an item that inspired a classic movie hits the shop; and Rick gets a look at a car that formerly belonged to Winston Churchill. (Churchill Buys A Car!!!)
Gold Rush (Discovery): Parker battles extreme heat at Hell's Crack. (That can't be the name of a real place--Hell's Crack?!?!?!?)
Gomer Pyle (MeTV): Friendly Freddie has a new dating service. (So Friendly Freddie is a pimp???)
(that's followed at 9:30 by Green Acres with "The town becomes introduces its own version of The Beverly Hillbillies") (Is this a crossover episode?!?!?!?)
10:00
Blue Bloods (CBS): Finally back with new episodes is this show "Erin and Anthony must trust a sociopath who claims he has evidence to convict a long sought after murderer; Frank faces a backlash from the department when he suspends an officer for excessive violent behavior; and Danny and Baez try to arrest a notorious gangster. (The episode is called "The Puzzle Palace")
Dishing with Julia Child (PBS): New series has two contemporary chefs discussing the works of one Julia Child (and marveling over said works)--Tonight we have "The Whole Fish" (The WHOLE Fish????) (Yes The WHOLE Fish) (nods)
Vagrant Queen (SYFY): The team is forced to stop in for repairs at a far off way station, but the cannibals who reside there have other plans. (Do those other plans include feasting on our intrepid team by any chance????) (I was speculating there based on what cannibals tend to do most) (Most? Well a good percentage of the time at least) ("I'll have you know Matthew that cannibalism isn't always about eating people! We have downtime too! And Hobbies! Hobbies that don't always involve the taste of human flesh!!! I'd say eating people is only maybe 15% of our day to day lives really!")
Strike Back (Cinemax): Section 20 hatches a plan to storm a freighter carrying a weapons shipment but when Spencer administers a kill order, Coltrane grows suspicious of his motives; Zayef divulges intel that could drastically change their fates. (STRIKE BACK! Look for this to be Top Pick soon!)
Pawn Stars (History): A possible clip show taking a look at items the store has had from The Swingin' 60's including a vintage Playboy, 2 coconut cups from the set of Gilligan's Island, and an Apollo 11 heat shield. (Hmmm)
Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO): According to the cable guide, this show is expected to be back with a new episode tonight so I'm guessing he's gonna be doing the show from his house the way all the other late night talk show hosts have been doing their respective shows as well???
11:00
High Maintenance (HBO):When a snowstorm hits on Christmas Eve, Pam-Anne joins her sister Destiny and a motley crew of flight attendants at their crash pad in Queens; Delays on his way home to spend the holidays with his family force The Guy to celebrate Hanukah in NYC. (This may or may not be the show's 4th season finale but this is only episode 9 of the season and i think there's supposed to be 10 episodes no?)
HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND ONE AND ALL!!!! I HOPE ITS NOT AT ALL FILLED WITH DISCARDED MASKS WHICH ARE STARTING TO BE EVERYWHERE AROUND HERE NOW AND IT IS JUST THIS SIDE OF GROSS! (GROSS! WOOO!)
