🍅 Feed Me: Hamantaschen

Hamantashchen are the triangular-shaped pastries associated with the celebration of Purim, which begins at sundown this Monday, March 9th. Unfamiliar with Purim? Read more at Chabad.org. Also: Blossom is here to help!

From ToriAvey.

Ingredients
3/4 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
2/3 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp grated orange zest
2 1/4 cups flour
1/4 tsp salt
1-5 tsp water (if needed - I did not)
Filling of your choice: Fruit preserves, chococolate, cheese, Nutella, etc. (I used raspberry preserves.)

Cut the butter into pieces and combine with sugar via mixer until fluffy.

Add in the egg, vanilla and orange zest.

Finally, sift in the flour and salt.

When the mixture is crumbly, start kneading with your hands until it's a smooth ball and then refrigerate for at least three hours.

When you're ready to start, preheat the oven at 350 degrees. Roll the dough to 1/8" thickness and via cookie cutter or wine glass, cut circles out of the dough.

Put 1 teaspoon of the filling in the center of each disk.

Fold the left edge, and then the right edge, so that they meet at the top triangularly. Then fold up the bottom to complete the shape.

The recommended bake time is 10-to-25 minutes; I didn't need more than twelve, though, so your oven may vary.

Yields about thirty-five cookies.
