Here Lie What's On for February 27th 2020
Streaming:
Star Trek Picard (CBS All Access): "The Impossible Box" finds Picard tracking Soji (???) to the Borg cube in Romulan space bringing back harrowing memories for our title man.
Altered Carbon (Netflix): 2nd season premiere of this rather confusing (but ambitious) science fiction drama about future tech and bodies being interchangeable and death no longer being a permanent condition---(I've had the novel this is based on sitting next to my bed for several years now--one year I'll read it alongside The Night Manager and Cloud Atlas!) (My one question here honestly is why is this premiering tonight and not tomorrow when most Netflix shows premiere on a Friday???)
Followers (Netflix) New Japanese language drama about an aspiring actress hitting it big thanks to a candid Instagram post, the lives of several Tokyo women cross paths as they try to determine what happiness is and how they can attain it. (Happiness is a warm puppy) (well for some people it is, for me Happiness is a full DVR of new Chicago Fire episodes)
Six Windows In the Desert (Netflix): Six short films from different filmmakers all of whom are from Saudi Arabia which will all depict various aspects of life there...or something???
8:00
Young Sheldon (CBS): CBS seems to be in rerun mode tonight (tho ten o'clock drama Tommy is new) so we have a rerun from November in which the local university offers George Sr. a lucrative job offer in hopes of snagging Sheldon's enrollment fulltime when he graduates high school. Meanwhile Georgie gets a job in Coach's sporting goods store; and Mary tries to cleanse her house of greed. (I'm guessing she's not a fan of the movie "Wall Street")
Superstore (NBC): Amy organizes a community service event, but its jeopardized by both Jeff's return and Glenn's desire to help his co-workers; Sandra confronts Jonah about his strategy for soliciting donations; Garrett tries to prove his intelligence to Dina. (I feel like you can tell Garrett's smart just from his various witty remarks honestly---hey if smartasses weren't smart, then they wouldn't have the word smart right in there right???)
Last Man Standing (FOX): Mike plays cupid for Joe when he sets Joe up on a date with Cece; Kyle is jealous when Ryan invites Jen to be a guest on their podcast. (Who would want to go out on a date with modern day Jay Leno??? Its no wonder my idea for a reality show "Win A Date With Jay Leno" failed to garner any interest from any of the various networks out there!)
Station 19 (ABC): When a blizzard hits Seattle, Trains must take a different call; Ben has some increasing suspicions about a colleague. (Do you think the colleague is a communist??? Could there be a nest of communists in Seattle??? Does this show secretly take place in the 1950s???)
Katy Keene (The CW): Katy decides to put all her energy into her work to avoid her personal life, but she finds herself in hot water once again at work (Once again?!?!?!? Its only been 3 episodes!); Jorge questions his new relationship; Josie stands up to Alexander and Xandra. (shrugs)
Grown-ish (Freeform): Zoey struggles with school and her new job as a fashion stylist; Sky returns to the track only to run into a new obstacle; Jazz has issues with balancing her personal life and track; Ana and Javi try to keep things professional. (A lot of balancing going on here!)
Love In Store (Hallmark): Your Hallmark Channel Movie of the Night is this one where "Sparks fly between a home shopping host and her rival when they must compete for a promotion" Starring Alexandra Breckenridge, Robert Buckley, and Jackee (From 227!!!!)
8:30
The Unicorn (CBS): Rerun episode--but a fun one--Wade decides to ditch his dating app in favor of meeting women the old fashioned way--at a happening upscale bar; Ben and Forrest feel obligated to go and play wingman, but need permission from their wives in order to be able to do it. (Its an ep i actually found pretty humorous and cute in its depiction of the guys' friendship--I enjoyed it at least)
Brooklyn 9-9 (NBC): When cocaine and weapons are stolen from the evidence locker, the squad must investigate themselves! (Dun Dun Dunnnn) (We saw at the tail end of last week's episode what happened btw--it was Vanessa Beyer, tho I honestly thought it was a joke that she was doing that and not the start of the plotline to their next episode!)
Outmatched (FOX): Top Pick of the night goes to this lackluster new-ish sitcom that finds "Mike and Kay looking into a charter school for Marc after he gets into trouble at school for bullying his teacher (!!!!) ; Kay fears Marc's chances of getting accepted might be ruined due to her own bullying history." (If your kid is bullying his teacher, i don't think a new school is gonna help all that much really--although maybe if it was one of those schools where you got nuns hitting the kids with rulers maybe)
Everything's Gonna Be OK (Freeform): Alex puts Nic in the naughty corner; Nic and Alex work thru their relationship issues at home; Matilda and Genevieve find themselves confronting sexuality at school in very different ways; Genevieve is forced to grow up. (The episode is simply titled "Maggots")
9:00
Mom (CBS): Rerun from early October has Bonnie getting caught in the middle when Adam and Christy clash over an incident at the bar; Jill's new boyfriend (Will Sasso) goes to great lengths to try and impress her.
Will and Grace (NBC): Karen introduces the titular duo to her new lover--Phil, but neither Will and Grace think that Phil is on the level and are suspicious that he has sinister intentions; When Miss Coco Peru tells Jack that he's closing down his bar, Estefan encourages Jack to become its new owner. (This reminds me of when the bar that used to house trivia first announced its closing, a friend and teammate looked into trying to buy it, but wouldn't have been able run it due to his day job, I was like "who would run it?" and he was like "You're not doing anything right?" "Yeah but i don't know anything about how to run a bar" "What's to know? You'd figure it out" It was a nice fantasy that lasted approximately five seconds as my friend couldn't get any of the owners to return his inquiries)
Deputy (FOX): The sheriff's dept investigates a rash of home invasions; Paula and Maggie continue to plan Maggie's quincenara, enlisting the help of Paula's mom; Bishop tries to deal with an uncomfortable conversation with Genevieve. (Why are there so many characters on tv named Genevieve all of a sudden?!?!?!?!?)
Grey's Anatomy (ABC): Meredith and Carina question DeLuca's uncharacteristic behavior when he volunteers to perform a life threatening task during a blizzard; Bailey tries to help Jeremy with his future; Richard trains a new intern. (Maybe DeLuca's actually secretly a Yeti!)
Legacies (The CW): Rerun of an episode from mid January that has "the necromancer puts his plan for revenge into motion" (I just liked that sentence itself quite honestly)
The Bold Type (Freeform): Kat considers her feelings on preconceived gender roles in the bedroom; Jane feels like a fraud when asked to speak at a Wellness seminar while struggling with a sudden feminine health problem; Sutton tries to bond with Richard's mom. ("To Peg or Not to Peg" is the episode's title) (Somehow that was never the title of an episode of "Married With Children")
Project Runway (Bravo): The remaining designers must think big to make an avant garde look that is extraordinary and in a fashion first, the runway starts with a season long retrospective outside and 16 stories high. ("The Height of Avant Garde Fashion" is the title)
Wife Swap (Paramount): A subservient biker wife who thinks men should be waited on hand and foot swaps with a progressive social media influencer whose husband takes care of the kids. (I still don't understand how "social media influencer" is an actual paying job that people can make a living doing but whatever people are lemmings I guess)
Restaurant Impossible (Food): Mike and Charita open a family restaurant called "Blue Orleans" in Chattanooga Tennessee
Gomer Pyle (MeTV): Saving an old horse from the glue factory. (Shazam Mr. Ed!!!) (Willburrr)
9:30
Carol's Second Act (CBS): Rerun of that time Carol's friend Phyllis is admitted to the hospital, and Carol gets a little jealous when she sees what Phyllis' retirement life looks like and realizes she could've had that instead of opting for med school. (Its A Wonderful Carol's Second Act!)(Everytime a bedpan gets cleaned, an orderly gets his wings!) (Hey I could write for this show!!!)
Indebted (NBC): Joanna has a new girlfriend who doesn't like to gossip which forces the family to take a look at how they communicate because they all gossip like teenage girls. (Especially that Fran Drescher!) (That rerun episode of Carol over on CBS is looking pretty good right about now)
Green Acres (MeTV): Oliver offers to help Eb realize his dream of becoming a veterinarian. (Ba-Dum Ba-Dum Bum--Bum Bum)
10:00
Tommy (CBS): She must decide how to best deploy the LAPD's resources when she has to deal with both a bomb threat at a climate change protest and a mudslide shutting down a major freeway. (And does Tommy also have a retired friend named Phyllis whose life will make Tommy feel envious and then ultimately glad that her life is much more fulfilling???)
Law and Order Special Victims Unit (NBC): Rollins' sister stirs up trouble and a possible investigation when she reports a doctor who trades prescription painkillers for sex. (The opioid crisis has reached a new level here!!!)
A Million Little Things (ABC): Gary accidentally crashes Maggie's first date with a new guy; Delilah is forced to have the talk with Sophie; Rome has an important meeting with a Hollywood big shot; Eddie teaches Dakota a tough lesson in what it takes to succeed in the music business. (I thought Dakota was already a success in the music business???) (Also the idea of "Psych" crashing his ex girlfriend's first date with a new guy is very "Psych") (Also "Oh you Million Little Characters, Always Doing A Million Little Things")
The Sinner (USA): Part 4 finds Ambrose pursuing Jamie thru NYC and trying to prevent yet another homicide. ("Yet Another Homicide" sounds like it should be the title of the 2nd sequel to that movie"Homicide"--not the show, the movie!)
Impractical Jokers (TRU TV): Murr, Q, Joe, and Sal go to the farts with Jeff Daniels; (Jeff Daniels is playing himself!!!!) than they try to get strangers to take their sides in ridiculous arguments that they stage in front of them; the loser finds himself stranded in a rocky location. (Philly???) (The episode is titled "Rock Bottom")
THAT'S IT FOR ME FOLKS--REMEMBER TO TIP YOUR WAITSTAFF GENEROUSLY!!!!!!
