What's On Tonight (Saturday): Dr. Stone built a cell phone, now to call the dead

Dr. Stone (via We Heart It)
Hi! It's been a few months since I featured an anime, and ya know, the Dr. Stone finale is an event worth highlighting. Thousands of years after people were mysteriously turned to stone, Dr. Stone awakens with a goal of reawakening civilization. He is a bit of an a-hole, but everything he does is for bringing greater society back to life. The canvas for the show is vast, yet the fight scenes are minimal because the show is more interested in the science of bringing modern tech to a stone age life. Elsewhere, Fox burns off the final episodes of its fall dud Almost Family. (Yay points!) There's no late night from New York or Austin tonight, but sketch comedy lives at Nickelodeon. Plus National Geographic showcases wildlife in China, comedian Whitmer Thomas wants to make you laugh, and the NAACP awards its best of 2019. (Of note, if you're into Saturday morning cartoons, there is the series premieres of ThunderCats Roar and in an edition of That's Still On?!: the Power Rangers begins its 27th season.) The Invaders, alien beings from a dying planet. Their destination: the Earth. Their purpose: to make it their world, here's what's on television for tonight, Saturday, February 22!

⭐ Dr. Stone (Adult Swim, 11:30 p.m.): FINALE. Last week, the small village successfully made a cell phone. In the finale, Senku learns of a bee named Speaker who can play voices of the dead. The phone will come in handy. I watched the first few episodes and it is a well above average anime. The animation is so rich, though some of the character designs are questionable — the women are skimly clothes and many characters appear to just want to fuck. Yet the endless stories involving science and greater story canvas at work is really, really good. The series will return for a season that will concentrate on the manga's Stone Wars arc.

The Patti Labelle Show πŸ“Ί (getTV, 11 p.m.): In this 1985 special, Patti welcomes Cyndi Lauper, Luther Vandross, and Amy Grant.✔️

Food Wars! (Adult Swim, 1 a.m.): After Soma and Mimasaka begin their semifinal match, Soma must find a way to best Mimasaka's expert mimicry of his dish.

The Invaders πŸ“Ί (MeTV, midnight): The series finale! A bombing and a suspicious man leads Vincent to question an official with possible alien connections.✔️
