What's On Tonight (Friday): Hunters Begins Its Hunt While Fresh Off the Boat Says Zaijan

Hello all, How is everyone tonight??? I couldn't decide between the two so i made them both top pick. (TWO Top Picks?!?!?!?? What kind of crazy mixed up world do we live in?!?!?!?) This is What's On for Friday February 21st 2020 (2/21/20)

Streaming:

Hunters (Amazon Prime): This much hyped drama (with some promised flashes of comedy) starring Al Pacino as a veteran Nazi hunter who finds a bunch of high ranking officials living in NYC in 1977 and plotting a 4th Reich takeover. (The idea of nazis living in NYC is kinda absurd to me since there are you know like a ton of Jewish people all living here as well and you know what with Nazis not being able to co-exist peacefully and all, it would seem kind of hard to believe) So its kind of like "The Americans" but instead of Russians its Nazis. (I know, but if you're gonna steal, at least steal from the best???) Josh Radnor (the "I" in "How I Met Your Mother"), Logan Lerman, Tiffany Boone, Jerika Hinton, Lena Olin (boy what was the last thing you saw her in???), and Poor, Poor, Poor, Dylan Baker all co-star--and if you think this isn't the 800 lb show dropping this weekend, well lets take a look at some of the other streaming options.

The Last Thing He Wanted (Netflix): Netflix's big offering this weekend is this movie starring Ben Affleck, Anne Hathaway, and Willem Dafoe "A hard hitting reporter becomes entangled in the corruption story she's trying to break in Central America while aiding her father in brokering an arms deal" (What? She's a reporter who's also sidelining as an arms dealer?!?!?!?) Written and directed by Dee Rees (of "Pariah" and that article about her in last weekend's NY Times Magazine)

Yeh Ballet (Netflix): Another film that the Netflix is offering this weekend is this Indian film about an eccentric ballet master (Played by non Indian actor Julian Sands) and two gifted Mumbai teens who face bigotry while pursuing their ballet dreams abroad.

Gentefied (Netflix): This Spanish language comedy series follows a pair of cousins in LA scrambling to try and save their grandfather's beloved taco truck while also pursuing their own dreams in an increasingly gentrified LA. (LA??? now if they really want gentrification--they should've set it in certain parts of Brooklyn!)

Hyenas (Netflix): This Korean language drama series has as its premise "To survive in a dog eat dog world, 2 rival lawyers with high class clientele tear apart anything that stands in their way including one another" (So its a comedy then???) (No i'm kidding, it looks to be rather serious)

Babies (Netflix): Apparently that 20009 doc about "babies" titled simply "babies" has inspired Netflix to commission a tv show about--hey what was that title again??? Googling it finds a couple of review headlines that all say "Babies features too many scientists talking and not enough actual babies" which for a show called Babies would seem to be inexplicable.

Glitch Techs (Netflix): New Animated Series about two teens who work at a game store, but its a front for their actual job which is capturing bad guys from video games who have broken out of the game and into the real world. (So like that short lived  mid 90s tv show "Deadly Games" then???)

System Crasher (Netflix) This German language film (Not Series) has a 9 year old who has been traumatized bonding with a gruff mentor as child services works to find her a new home.

And finally Disney + has the 7th season premiere of Star Wars: The Clone Wars,

as well as the latest episode of Diary of a Future President.

Broadcast:

8:00

MacGyver (CBS): Mac and the team are on a plane that's in the air when a pilot has a heart attack. (Psshhh MacGyver could tackle that in the first 5 minutes of the show! Give him a real challenge next time writers!)

Lincoln Rhyme and the Hunt for the Bone Collector (NBC): This thing keeps on going as Lincoln hunts for a serial killer who stages perfect murders by brilliantly framing suspects in what appears to be open and shut cases; the hunt hits home when one of Lincoln's closest friends finds himself accused. (Will justice be served??? I dunno, this isn't CBS so its hard to say)

Fresh Off the Boat (ABC): After 6 seasons and 114 episodes (counting the finale) this sitcom says goodbye or "Zaijan" (Oh so that's what Thomas R was saying all those times he'd say that!) with this two back to back episode finale. Episode 1 finds "When the family van takes a turn for the worse, Jessica and Louis each process the loss in their own way while the boys sneak off on a road trip on their own to find the time capsule they buried in Washington D.C when they first arrived in America"

Friday Night Smackdown (FOX): Smackdowns are once again given out, handed down and passed around. (Why? Because its Friday, that's why!)

Charmed (The CW): Harry can't expel his past so the titular trio of witches rush to his aide, the trio then finds themselves in the greatest circumstances they have ever faced yet. (That's not a sentence that really makes sense, but ok)

Bunk'd (Disney): When Ava's brother Alex visits Camp Kikiwaka, love develops a crush on him. (How old are these kids supposed to be again???)

Valentine Ever After (Hallmark): A woman finds love and her true calling in life while performing community service for her involvement in a bar brawl. (Sure Jan) Starring Autumn Reeser, and Eric Johnson.

8:30

Fresh Off the Boat (ABC): Episode 2 of the Fresh finale finds "Jessica grapples with her vision of the future while the boys deal with what to label as their own personal goals for the future" (You could tell its a finale because both plotlines have the word "future" in them!)  (With 114 episodes to your name, you did pretty well for a show that was never a huge hit, but managed to hang on there no matter where ABC threw you, and they threw you all over the schedule during your time on the air there! Hopefully syndication will treat you well in the future)  ZAIJAN!!!!!!!!!

Gabby Dunn and the Unsittibles (Disney): When Dina considers moving back to Miami, Gabby and Olivia plot to use some of Gabby's aliens clients to create some buzy news in order to keep Dina busy down at the news station. (The episode is titled "Fake News" which got a ha! from me once i saw what the plot synopsis was!)

9:00

Hawaii 5-0 (CBS): Harry Langford (Chris Vance) helps 5-0 investigate a string of murders that follow the plot of a fabled unpublished crime novel from the 20's; Tani and Junior's friendship takes a meaningful new turn. (Sooo they're finally gettin' together then yes???) (Also Harry Langford centered eps are usually pretty solidly done eps so I expect this to follow suit)

Dateline (NBC): When 2 women call 911 after hearing someone break into their apt, their call for help holds the key to solving the mysterious murder of a young grad student named Katie Sepich. (The episode is titled "The Woman Who Couldn't Scream")

20/20 (ABC): Not to be outdone but this show features "An upstate NY woman convicted of murdering her 2nd husband had attempted to murder her daughter whom she also tried to frame for the death of her late husbands" (She sounds like she should've either thought that plan of hers thru some more, or maybe just have re-thought her plans entirely--whose to say really)

Dynasty (The CW): Blake and Crystal contend with their new houseguest; Adam seeks help from Alexis and Colby; Liam gets a significant career opportunity; Sam tries a different kind of relationship; and Kirby pines for her crush (which i depressingly know is Adam because i apparently watch this now) (The episode is titled "You See Things In Terms of Black and White")

Country Music (PBS): Part 8 "Don't Get Above Your Raisin' 1984-1996" As the genre takes off, country music artists like George Strait, Randy Travis, and the Judds works to keep country music true to its roots, the rise of Garth Brooks and the return of Johnny Cash are also tackled in this installment of the Ken Burns doc.

Gomer Pyle (MeTV): A 15 year old girl develops a crush on Gomer. (She apparently falls for him while hearing him exclaim Shazam!)  (That is as usual followed at 9:30 by Green Acres where "Oliver handcuffs himself to Lisa while acting as her deputy" Oh i can't miss that one!!!)

Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives (Food): Visiting a Salvadoran spot up in Logan, Utah  that specializes in making pupusas and a cabeza creation. (Cabeza means head!--they're making a "head creation???")

Supernanny (Lifetime): New episode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!!!1!!!!!!1111!!!!!!! (No one has ever been that excited for a new episode of Supernanny--although i mean surely there must be someone who's a fan out there, why else would Lifetime have brought it back right???)

Gold Rush (Discovery): Rick confronts his landowners; Tony makes  a massive purchase. (Shrugs--Gold Rush Guys---Gold Rush!!!)

10:00

Blue Bloods (CBS): Another rerun episode (frowny face) (this is what happens when you order 25 or 26 episodes of Hawaii 5-0 but only 22 of Blue Bloods) "Frank's esteem for an old friend proves to be a mistake; Jamie enlists Erin for help looking for a perp who took a shot at him after learning that Erin chose not to prosecute him; and Eddie clashes with her new boss at the precinct" (CBS? CBS? CBS? Rerun? Rerun? Rerun?)

Strike Back (Cinemax): After catching wind of a feud between Eden and his son Loric, Section 20 launches a raid on their daily business; Wedding arrangements between the Demacchi and Vironi families sour; and Mac considers a career changing offer from Coltrane.  (nods)

Haunting in the Heartland (Travel): New series premiere of yet another paranormal activity seeking show on the Travel Channel---"Shane Shippy is invited to Merill Mich" (shrugs--ooook)

Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO): appears to be a rerun of last Friday's episode but maybe my info is wrong???? Amadeus what say you???

11:00

High Maintenance (HBO): Episode is titled "Voir Dire" "When the guy and his eclectic group of jury duty serving peers head to a karaoke bar to mark the end of their service (Who Does This?!?!?!?); Keesha and Roman, the youngest members of the group find trouble; While exploring a side hustle with her friend Violet, Freddie encounters someone from her past." (ooook)

Live from the Comedy Cellar (Comedy Central): More comedians perform live from the fabled after hours comedy club in Greenwich Village Manhattan. (There's a bar right near there that i used to regularly attend!)

THAT'S IT FOR ME EVERYONE--HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!!! HOPEFULLY HUNTERS WILL TURN OUT TO NOT BE TERRIBLE??????
