What's On Tonight (Sunday): TV is looking prettyyy, prettyyy, pretty good

Curb Your Enthusiasm (via Giphy)
Hey, it's you! Well, good news for Larry David fans. Larry David is back! Nearly 20 years since its premiere, Curb Your Enthusiasm is back for season 10, and of course Larry is bringing the whole crew with him. Every Sunday you get to see him attempt to enjoy his semi-retirement, run into celebrities, and get in fights with a wide-assortment of people. It'll be pretty, pretty, pretty good. Elsewhere, Curb isn't alone as a premiere. HBO rolls out its new space comedy Avenue 5, PBS premieres the BBC import Vienna Blood, and Fox gives a special premiere to its spinoff 9-1-1: Lone Star. It is also the season finale of Ray Donovan, in case you forgot that that show is still a thing. Other highlights include the SAG awards, kids say darndest things for the last time(?), and the return of the Gourmet Detective, Kara Danvers, and Kate Kane. So, may I have the envelope please? Here's what's on television for tonight, Sunday, January 19!

EARLY PRIMETIME

60 Minutes (CBS, 7 p.m.): Great white sharks are near U.S. beaches! There are wolves in Yellowstone National Park! And a profile of photographer Joel Sartore. This reads like a best of the late 2010s nature programming from PBS.

Doctor Who ๐Ÿ“บ (Retro TV, 6 p.m.): During Roman times, the Doctor and Vicki investigating intrigue surrounding the death of a lyre player who was on the way to perform at Nero's palace. Meanwhile, Ian travels to the palace to save Barbara, who's been sold as a slave.✔️

Annette Bening receives the AARP Movies for Grownups Career Achievement Award. Downton Abbey will sweep every category.

Batwoman (The CW, 8 p.m.): While Gotham busies itself reacting to Batwoman's awkward encounter, Alice celebrates her ultimate act of vengeance. Sophie seeks advice about her love life from someone unexpected. TBH, I've forgotten where we stand with the stories for this show. Also, this episode is titled "How Queer Everything Is Today!"

Doctor Who (BBC America, 8 p.m.): In 1903, on the edge of Niagara Falls, Nikola Tesla's generator plant is behaving strangely. Something is sabotaging the maverick inventor's work. I wonder if the Doctor is nearby.

Columbo ๐Ÿ“บ (MeTV, 8 p.m.): War hero Eddie Albert shoots and kills his business partner, and easily manipulated young divorcรฉe Suzanne Pleshette is the only witness.

The Gourmet Detective: Roux the Day (Hallmark Movies & Mystery, 8 p.m.): Henry is hired to authenticate and purchase a long lost and valuable recipe book. Soon Henry and Maggie find themselves in a murder mystery where secrets hidden within a treasured book have dire consequences for all who own it. Must be Sweeney Todd's cookbook.

Howards End (PBS, 8 p.m.): This miniseries aired a couple years ago on Starz, but PBS started bringing it (and most importantly, Hayley Atwell) to us commoners last week. It was the WOT Top Pick back on 8 April 2018. In the second episode, in the wake of Mrs. Wilcox's death, her family is further thrown by her final request regarding Howards End. Elsewhere, the Schlegels facing eviction. Will I continue to list this in WOT? TBD.✔️

Power (Starz, 8 p.m.): Elisa Marie investigates what's on the USB stick given to her by her father. Meanwhile, Tommy must destroy the evidence, and he may need Ghost's help to retrieve it.

Ray Donovan (Showtime, 8 p.m.): FINALE. Ray finally learns the truth about his sister Bridget's death. Meanwhile, Terry reckons with the death of a friend and his own mortality, and Mickey's quest for the money he's owed leads to a deadly face-off between the Sullivans and the Donovans.

๐Ÿ•˜ EASTERN / ๐Ÿ•— CENTRAL

Collector's Call (MeTV, 9:30 p.m.): Meet George, a lifelong Elvis fan who has spent years amassing a large collection of Elvis memorabilia, including a life-size movie-theater cutout for Love Me Tender, a mint-condition Elvis board game, and a pair of vintage, never-worn Elvis sneakers.

Sanditon (PBS, 9 p.m.): Charlotte sets out to avoid Sidney until an accident forces them together. When Tom brings a new doctor to the town, he and Lady Denham clash. Meanwhile, Clara makes a bold move in her bid to outplay Sir Edward and Esther.

Shameless (Showtime, 9 p.m.): Frank finds a cushy place to make his new home. Lip gets cold feet when Tami moves forward with a plan for their future. Debbie's love triangle(?!) reaches a breaking point.

Supergirl (The CW, 9 p.m.): It's a bottle episode! Well, probably not really. It is titled "The Bottle Episode." The subsequent complications from the Crisis leave Supergirl to face a chaotic threat. I'm gonna guess it's too much Barry. Dammit, Barry, you have your own show to star in! Unless they are doing a musical. OH, BARRY AND KARA STAR IN A LIVE EVENT MUSICAL FOR THE CW! First instinct: The Music Man. Or Once. Or Waitress? I have no idea if the latter is good.

FOR THE RECORDBuilding Alaska (DIY); Disasters at Sea (Smithsonian Channel); Evil Lives Here (Investigation Discovery); Lone Star Law (Animal Planet); Power Confidential (Starz); Shark Tank (ABC); Vengeance: Killer Coworkers (HLN); Worst Cooks in America (Food Network)

๐Ÿ•™ EASTERN / ๐Ÿ•˜ CENTRAL

9-1-1: Lone Star (Fox, 10 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. Finally!!! A revival of the uber short-lived drama Lone Star. Oh, wait... This isn't that. Dammit. Firefighter Rob Lowe leaves New York to move to Austin, Texas, with his son to help rebuild a firehouse from scratch. Big East Coast city boy moving to Texas, there will be drama. And if you look at the cast, it is as diverse as you can get. Plus unrealistic scenarios. BINGO!✔️

Avenue 5 (HBO, 10 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. From the mind of Veep's Armando Iannucci comes this space comedy. When a malfunction occurs aboard the luxury space cruise ship Avenue 5, it's up to engineer Lenora Crichlow to warn Capt. Hugh Laurie, owner Josh Gad, and his right-hand woman Suzy Nakamura that the incident may have a cataclysmic knock-on effect. Zach Woods also stars (because I'm sure some WOTers really care about him). So... this has nothing to do with Avenue Q? Also, this reminds me of the Doctor Who episode "Voyage of the Damned," which reminds me how much I love Kylie Minogue. I'm getting off topic.✔️

Body Language ๐Ÿ“บ (Buzzr, 10 p.m.): In the 1980s, there was the CBS program Body Language, aka Charades: The Game Show with a little word gamery, too.

⭐ Curb Your Enthusiasm (HBO, 10:30 p.m.): PREMIERE. Larry is back and celebrating the new year. He kicks off the new year with new rival Mocha Joe. And at Jeff and Susie's cocktail party, Larry gets roped into lunch plans and has a misunderstanding with a caterer. Oh that Larry.✔️

Miracle Workers (TBS, 10:15 p.m.): A sneak peek at the new season. Is this the first episode? Or an inside look at the season? I don't know.

Vienna Blood (PBS, 10 p.m.): SERIES PREMIERE. In 1990s Vienna, Inspector Jรผrgen Maurer calls on Dr. Matthew Beard to help investigate the murder of a young woman and the mysterious circumstances that suggest a supernatural power may be to blame. This miniseries is an import from Britain.
