What Up WOT People!!!!! This is what's on for January 24th 2020
Streaming:
Netflix has the third season premiere of Sabrina The Teenage Witch of which I know several of you (most of you?) are fans of.
Also on tap on the ol' Netflix is the last batch of episodes of Ashton Kutcher/Sam Elliot sitcom The Ranch (It ran for 4 seasons apparently---and 20 eps each season that means this thing ran for 80 episodes! That's actually pretty impressive considering it wasn't a prestige show and certainly wasn't something that had that much buzz going.)
The premiere of a new show called Rise of Empires: Ottoman which is about "Sultan Mehmed the 2nd wages an epic campaign to take the capital of Constantinople and shapes the course of history for centuries to come" Starring Charles Dance (!!!!) (CHARLES DANCE!!!!)
The premiere of something called Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop Lab (shakes head) I don't know either!
And lastly they also has the premiere of a Chinese film called "A Sun" which is about "A family reckoning with the incarceration of their younger son and the greater misfortune that happens afterwards"
Hulu meanwhile has the second season premiere of Aidy Bryant's show "Shrill"
Amazon has the premiere of an Indian show called "The Forgotten Army" which is a historical show that takes place amongst a unit that was fighting for Indian independence
And lastly Disney Plus has the next episodes of Diary of a Future President, Marvel's The Hero Project, and the season finales of both The World According To Jeff Goldblum, and Encore
Broadcast:
8:00
Hawaii 5-0 (CBS): CBS is yet again in rerun mode tonight (damnit!!!) so we got here an episode from last February (again?) "When the top salesperson for a beauty company pyramid scheme is murdered, 5-0 must sift thru a long list of suspects; Adam befriends a homeless man. (No wonder Adam decided to leave the show this season--this was a plotline the show handed him???)
Figure Skating (NBC): U.S. Champs-Senior Ladies Free Skate (This is pre-empting The Bone Collector tonight! Although to be fair it is also pre-empting Dateline as well)
American Housewife (ABC): Katie grows concerned when Ana Kat is invited to join Westport's elite scout troop; Taylor learns her Carnegie Mellon interview is scheduled with famous alumni and Broadway star Brecken Phillips; Oliver befriends the school recluse. (That school recluse??? You guessed it--Frank Stallone!!!) (No i'm kidding, although you never know...this is the same show that once had George Hamilton in a recurring role so why not Frank Stallone???)
Friday Night Smackdown (FOX): Smackdowns are once again given out, handed down, and yes passed around. (nods)
Charmed (The CW): Maggie and Mel fear Jordan's curse is alive and well; Macy and Harry confront unspoken feelings. (Hungry, Are They Hungry? I'll Bet They're Hungry!)
Bunk'd (Disney): Lou discovers that Mayor Higgins who is up for re-election is actually a goat. Lou decides to run against him a sloth. (This may be my favorite synopsis that i've typed up this week right here)
One Winter Weekend (Hallmark): Your Hallmark Movie of the Night is this one where "A writer meets an eligible entrepreneur when they're mistakenly booked for the same ski chalet." (Sacre Bleu!) Staring Taylor Cole and Jack Turner. (I don't know who either of them are--should I?)
8:30
Fresh Off the Boat (ABC): Eddie convinces Evan that coaching from former classmate is what he needs to finally win the state spelling bee; Jessica and Louis convince Emery to get a job only to be surprised by what he chooses to do. (The episode is titled "The Magic Motor Inn" which may or may not provide a clue for that job may be) (Also this is the penultimate episode of the show!) (Awww)
Gabby Duran and the Unsittibles (Disney): Gabby receives an anonymous note saying "I Know About the Aliens" and must find out who sent it (I guess "I Know What You Did Last Alien" would've been too old a reference to make for the pre-teens this show is aimed at?)
9:00
Magnum PI (CBS): Mags and Higgins are "yacht-jacked" while out at sea and Higgins gets shot in the process and is in danger of bleeding out miles from nowhere (we all know she doesn't tho as this is a rerun from last March)
20/20 (ABC): A man kills his business partner and then hatches an elaborate plan to cover it all up. (That's it? That's the synopsis? Do you think Castle is gonna solve the mystery here) (Oh right, I mean Do you think The Rookie gonna solve the mystery--I know he's just a rookie, but he is pretty good at his job)
Dynasty (The CW): Anders seeks help finding his daughter Kirby after Blake told her to leave town (a couple episodes back because he thought she was working with the prosecutor in his trial); Fallon assembles Sam, Colby, Culhane, and reluctantly Adam for the mission to find Kirby; Cristal and Alexis have a historically epic encounter. (The episode is titled "What Sorrows Are You Drowning?" which i like as a title, kinda wish it was being used for something for substantial than an episode of Nu-Dynasty)
Country Music (PBS): Episode 4 of the Ken Burns doc airs, which chronicles the Memphis, Tenn scene during the 50's which sees the rise of Sun Records, Elvis, and Johnny Cash; You also have Ray Charles crossing racial barriers when he records a country album; and Patsy Cline trying to develop a new style of her own as well.
Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives (Food): An award winning BBQ jpint in Kansas City Mo that serves pork belly burnt ends; a taqueria in Dallas that brings the real Tex-Mex to the city; and a sub shop in D.C. that has homemade everything. (My friend's dad actually runs and own a sandwich place in the D.C. area--i've heard several anecdotes over the past couple of years about growing up and helping out there--its probably not his dad's shop tho as he would've been touting this all over if it was for sure)
Gold Rush (Discovery)
Gomer Pyle (MeTV): Lou Ann gets fired as a nightclub singer so Gomer finds her a job as a salesgirl. (shrugs--well i guess maybe she can sing door to door???)
10:00
Blue Bloods (CBS): This is a rerun of the season opener where Callie Thorne reprises her role as a medium named Maggie who brings Danny and Baez information on an open homicide; and Frank is asked by former partner Lonnie Ross (Treat Williams) to help out his long estranged daughter after she is arrested. (Its fine, I've seen it, its fine...CBS)
Ghost Loop (Travel): The team goes to Prairie du Rocker Illinois where an aggressive ghost is attacking both the owner and the guests of a bed and breakfast there. (That could play well in ads for tourism dollars tho "Stay in the bed and breakfast where guests are getting attacked by a ghost!!!!")
Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO): His guests tonight include Megyn Kelly, Alex Wagner, Eric Erickson, and Michael McFaul (I was thiiiis close to writing Erik Estrada for Eric Erickson there)
