Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Jan. 7

Here are today's contestants:

- Lisa, a community volunteer from Texas, was proposed to from a different car;
- David, a retail planner from California, is proud of the University of Michigan; and
- Karen, a political consultant from Virginia, is enjoying time with her young daughter. Karen entered the game as a eight-day champ with winnings of $159,603.

Lisa was well in command most of the way, but a miss by her on DD3 and a strong late rally by champ Karen kept the game alive into FJ with Lisa at $15,600, Karen with $8,200 and David at $4,800.

DD1, $600 - POLITICS - Cities as big as L.A. & Dallas have this kind of mayoral election where there's no "D" or "R" after the candidates' names (Karen lost $1,600 on a true DD.)

DD2, $1,600 - FILL THE M-T SPACE - The name of a French soldier with a rigorous system of training gave us this word for a strict disciplinarian (Lisa won $3,000 from her score of $8,200 vs. $2,600 for Karen.)

DD3, $1,600 - AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY - When Medgar Evers was gunned down in 1963, he was the Mississippi field secretary of this national organization (Lisa lost $4,000 from her total of $18,800 vs. $4,800 for David.)

FJ - INTERNATIONAL SPORTS STARS - Now with over 185 million followers, he surpassed Selena Gomez in 2018 to become the most followed person on Instagram

Only David was correct on FJ, with Lisa dropping $900 to win with $14,700.

Triple Stumper of the day: For a clue about an 1890s invention, the word "perspiration"  wasn't enough of a hint to lead the players to Edison.

Missing the layup: Karen responded to a clue about a 3-named poet by giving Longfellow the incorrect first name William, but her opponents didn't take advantage by correcting it to Henry.

One more thing: There was no mention of the start of the GOAT tournament tonight, which will be airing nationally on different stations than many of those that air the syndicated shows.

Correct Qs:
DD1 - What is nonpartisan?
DD2 - What is a martinet?
DD3 - What is the NAACP?
FJ - Who is Ronaldo?
