What's On Tonight (Friday): Hawaii 5-0 Must Track Down and Apprehend His Own Mother!!!!! (CBS? CBS? CBS?)

Hello all, Here is WOT for November 8th 2019

Streaming: Amazingly there's not much happening on streaming platforms this weekend--perhaps the services are holding their collective breaths waiting for next week's launch of Disney + to see what kind of damage will be wrought before going ahead and releasing more stuff--or perhaps they just wanted to give audiences a chance to kick back and relax themselves this Veteran's Day weekend.

What's new tonight is an Amazon Documentary about China called "One Child Nation"

Meanwhile Netflix has a series made from Dr. Seuss's "Green Eggs and Ham" (How do you make an ongoing series from that tome?!?!?!?) Featuring a voice cast of Adam Devine, Keegan Michael Key, Tracey Morgan, Michael Douglas, and Diane Keaton--the show is about "Opposites Sam and Guy take a road trip to save an endangered animal, learning to try new things along the way like hope, friendship, and the title dish" (OY!!!!) (I mean it could be good?!?!?!? but OY was my initial gut reaction reading that just now cause i mean maybe a 90 minute movie of this, but an 8 part series about this??? They should've tried to re-do The Phantom Tollbooth instead honestly)

and 2 new movies. 1) "Let It Snow"---Stars Kiernan Shipka, Isabela Moner, and Shameik Moore and is about "A snowstorm hitting a small Midwestern town on Christmas Eve stranding a group of high school students who must band together and....learn the true meaning of Christmas????"

2) "Paradise Beach"---which is a Thai/French language crime film (with some English thrown in) about "A team of former robbers arrived at Paradise: Phuket, southern Thailand. Now traders, they are happy days. Until the day when the devil arrives: Mehdi, sentenced to 15 years in prison during the robbery, comes to recover his share of the cake." (Synopsis taken from imdb)

Broadcast:

Hawaii 5-0 (CBS): When the CIA informs MaGarrett that his momther has gone rogue on her undercover mission and may have killed her partner, Steve goes to Mexico to bring her home and prove her innocence. (Christine Lahti reprises her recurring role as Hawaii 5-0's mom--whom i don't believe we've actually seen since either season 3 or 4---i believe last time we saw her she was dating a private eye played by Treat Williams too--I remember watching that and thinking "Man the caliber of guest stars they're getting on 5-0 is pretty name brand these days!")

The Blacklist (NBC): Red alerts the FBI to the suspicious death of a scientist specializing in AI research; Francesca Campbell further entangles herself in Red's criminal activities. (That's not that hard really considered that pretty much all Red does is criminal activities so really all you'd have to do to entangle yourselves in them would pretty much be to just follow him around for a couple days)

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (ABC): Being simulcast on ABC, Disney Channel, and Freeform is the premiere episode of this new series that has been spun off of High School Musical (and displacing American Housewife and Fresh Off the Boat for a week)  "Ricky decides to audition for Easy Side High's fall musical in an effort to rekindle his relationship with his ex girlfriend Nini"  (Huh, girl i dated in college was always being called Nini by her sister--but her name was not Nini like at all--it was a nickname--a stupid, stupid, stupid nickname going back to her childhood...but I digress...Will this attempt at wringing more life out of this bloated franchise title prove successful???)

Friday Night Smackdown (FOX): Smackdowns are...Once Again....Handed Out and Passed Around Like So Much Candy Corn. (Candy Corn is a thing that people are known to pass around right???)

Charmed (The CW): Mel and Maggie attempt to find a missing Macy with a spell, while Harry uses a different method--allowing Abigael to help him access his subconscious in an attempt to connect with his dark side. ("Tales From The Dark Side"--you guys remember that show's intro--"Man walks in the sunlit world that he believes to be his reality...but there is unseen by most an underworld, a place that is just as real, but not as brightly lit....A Dark Side!!!!")

Road Home For Christmas (Lifetime): This 2019 Lifetime Original has Marla Sokoloff and Marie Osmond as 2 rival musicians who decide to road trip together to their neighboring hometowns for some reason. (nods)

Christmas Next Door (Hallmark): Not to be outdone but Hallmark has a 2017 holiday centered movie about "An author of bachelor lifestyle books is left in charge of his niece and nephew for the holidays" Starring Jesse Metcalfe and Fiona Gubelmann

9:00

Magnum PI (CBS): Magnum investigates the death of a hotel guest who was thrown from her room's balcony while working on a secret investigation of her own; Icepick is released from jail and is trying to keep a secret from Rick. (I totally forget who Icepick is much less why he was in jail in the first place; but Magnum investigating the death of a hotel guest is something I'd be down for I suppose)

Dateline (NBC): "Black Widow of Lomita" A California woman's two former husbands are mysteriously murdered 20 years apart!" (True Crime Story On A Friday Night?!?!?!? Outrageous!)

20/20 (ABC): Not to be outdone but ABC has a look back at the Amy Fisher/Joey Buttafucco Story with new interviews with Joey, Mary Jo, and their daughter all reflecting on how the scandal has changed their lives and what's been going on in them since then. (Did anyone ask for this?!?!?!? Someone making a wish on a monkey's paw perhaps????)

Dynasty (The CW): Adam receives unexpected attention from Blake; Fallon turns her attention from her former flame to her former business partner; Kirby makes a new friend despite Culhane's disapproval; Sammy arranges for a very special guest for his grand opening. (That very special guest??? You guessed it...Frank Stallone!!!) (No but I wish--if Frank Stallone were to randomly appear on a CW show i'd be legit impressed!!!)

Great Performances (PBS): "The King & I" This Tony award winning revival stars Kelli O'Hara and Ken Watanabe and is broadcast tonight for three hours, so this thing ends at midnight--so i guess set your DVR's accordingly if you're interested. (You Could Have Daaaaaannnnced Til Midnight....You Could Have Danced Till Midnight)

Ancient Aliens (History): Tattoos, piercings, and body modifications account for a nearly one billion dollar industry, but are these practices a bold form of self-expression or could they be motivated by a profound link to ancient ancestors???? (They're gonna spend an hour exploring this question????)

Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives (Food): A joint fries up some Hot Nashville chicken and some gangster gumbo in Cambridge Mass; a smoking spot in Sparks Nevada fires up some wagyu brisket and some wings nachos; and a fusion house is putting out smoked brisket pho and honey bourbon ribs in Juneau Alaska. (The honey bourbon ribs sound good! Also what is Hot Nashville chicken??? are they known for hot chicken?!?!?!?)

Gold Rush (Discovery): Parker commands a huge engineering challenge; Rick makes a huge upgrade to his operation; Mike and Monica team up at the start of the season; The Dakota Boys split up in their search for gold in the raging white waters of the Chillkat Mountains. (shrugs--Gold Rush People!!! There's Money Up In Thar Hills????)

9:30

Green Acres (MeTV): Arnold may be the sole heir to a meatpacking tycoon's estate in "Where There's A Will...")

10:00

Blue Bloods (CBS): Jamie and Frank oppose each other's viewpoints over the public's treatment of cops after rowdy teens pour water on two rookies; Danny and Baez invesigate a man who prays on the elderly; Erin is forced to admit her wrongdoings. (I was wondering when the show would get to doing an episode about the cops getting pelted by water balloons which was a story in the news here in NYC for a couple of days during the summer--there was a couple of guys going around pelting officers on the street with them--as a response the NYPD has now made if officially a crime to go around attacking uniformed officers with water balloons--because apparently it wasn't illegal to do so before????)

Van Helsing (Syfy): Three generations of Van Helsings come together before a showdown with Elder Sam and the Oracle. (ooh a showcased showdown---"Van Helsing Family--Cooommmmme Onnnn Dowwwwwwnnnn...You're the next contestant on The Price Is Right") (Doo doo do doo....)

In Search Of (History): The Bernuda Triangle has terrified and perplexed travelers, explorers, and scientists for centuries; a look at if this area actually holds some special destructive power; the team enters the triangle by both sea and by air to explore this phenomenon. (Quantum Leap once did an episode where he became a pilot flying into the Bermuda Triangle---remember that one you guys??? I think that might've been my first exposure to the Bermuda Triangle mythology actually since i watched that show as a grade schooler)

Ghost Nation (Travel): In Franklin mass, a family fights an unknown entity in their historic community that's known for witchcraft.  (that should say "used to be known for witchcraft" shouldn't it??? Dun Dun Dunnn)

11:00

Comedy Central Stand-Up Presents: 11:00---Joe Kwaczala and at 11:30--Nore Davis

Finding Escobar's Millions (Discovery): An informant's eradicate behavior forces the team to choose between shutting down the operation or investigating one more narco property that could be the big one. (That doesn't really sound like much of a choice here---here you can walk away and go on with the rest of your lives, or you can continue to be on tv some more)

Room 104 (HBO): "Left alone by her bickering parents, a bored teenage girl makes a series of prank calls, until one tests her brazen alter-ego..." Directed by indie movie darling So Young Kim. (shrugs) Anthology Show!!!!

HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND!!! I JAMMED TOWELS AGAINST THE DOOR WHERE THE SPIDERCRICKETS WERE COMING FROM AND ONE STILL GOT IN BECAUSE I JUST SAW ONE HOPPING AROUND WHILE TYPING THIS UP---THIS MEANS WAR SPIDER CRICKETS!!! YOU HAVE AWOKEN A SLEEPING GIANT!!! (I honestly chased after it and couldn't catch it, so maybe they havn't awoken a sleeping giant after all)
