Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Nov. 26

Please welcome today's contestants:

- Ian, an insurance broker from Florida, shares a fondness for "Cool Hand Luke" with Alex;
- Julie, a product strategist from New York, helps train refugees to work in restaurants; and
- Beth, a receptionist from Illinois, was a late-night college DJ. Beth is a one-day champ with winnings of $39,601.

Beth got rolling in the latter half of round one and despite missing DD3, held onto a runaway at $16,800 vs. $6,400 for Julie and $6,200 for Ian.

DD1, $1,000 - BIG BODIES OF WATER - Around 900,000 square miles: this sea that touches North America and Asia (Beth won $1,200 on a true DD.)

DD2, $800 - PLAY DOCTOR - Dr. Astrov & this title Chekhov relative vie for the affections of another man's wife (Beth won $1,800 from her leading total of $9,800 vs. $6,600 for Ian.)

DD3, $1,200 - AMERICAN CATHEDRALS - Both Spanish & French governors worshiped at a church on the site of what's now this city's St. Louis Cathedral  (Beth lost $2,000 from her score of $19,200 vs. $8,400 for Julie.)

FJ - POLITICAL PHRASES - Speechwriter Samuel Rosenman said FDR "attached no importance to" this phrase, "two monosyllables" in a 1932 speech

Everyone was incorrect on FJ. Beth dropped $2,800 to win with $14,000 for a two-day total of $53,601.

Translating the writers: Once again we had an FJ where you had to sift through the language to determine what was actually being asked. In this case, 1932 = Depression, and the clue was really, "This two-word, two-syllable phrase was FDR's most famous Depression-era initiative." Everyone has the knowledge, the key is figuring out the puzzle.

Triple Stumper of the day: In the Deep Stuff category, no one knew that effectively making it look like one person's head is on another's body is to create a "deep fake".

Correct Qs:
DD1 - What is the Bering Sea?
DD2 - Who is Uncle Vanya?
DD3 - What is New Orleans?
FJ - What is New Deal?
