Jeopardy! recap for Fri., Nov. 1

Introducing today's contestants:

- Jennifer, a coordinator from North Carolina, flew with her cool pilot mother;
- Christine, a writer from California, is a fan of the New York Rangers; and
- Andrew, a journalist from Ontario, covers Canadian politics.  Andrew is a one-day champ with winnings of $24,001.

Andrew was correct on all three DDs, but only made modest wagers in DJ, keeping the game close into FJ with Andrew at $15,000, Christine with $11,600 and Jennifer at $10,200.

DD1, $1,000 - NAMED FOR A PRESIDENT - The Department of Commerce headquarters building is named for this President who once served as Commerce Secretary (Andrew won $1,000 on a true DD.)

DD2, $1,200 - AGRICULTURE - In France & Germany, asparagus is grown underground to inhibit this pigment, creating a delicious white variety (Andrew added $1,500 from his score of $5,200.)

DD3, $1,600 - B.C. - In the 1st century B.C., Philo of Larissa taught his skeptical philo-sophy at this school founded by Plato (Andrew won $1,500 from his leading total of $10,700.)

FJ - RELIGION - This denomination took its name from this day, as told in the New Testament, when the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles

Everyone gave the same incorrect response to FJ. Jennifer cost herself the game by betting it all from a close third place, allowing Andrew to hang on, dropping $8,201 to finish at $6,799 for a two-day total of $30,800.

Andrew will return after the conclusion of the Tournament of Champions, which begins on Monday.

Triple Stumpers of the day: No one knew musical legend Hal Blaine played the drums, or in "B.C.", the term for the ideological barrier separating China from the West is the bamboo curtain.

Correct Qs:
DD1 - Who was Hoover?
DD2 - What is chlorophyll?
DD3 - What is the Academy?
FJ - What is Pentecostalism? (The players all replied with 7th Day Adventists.)
