What's On Tonight (Friday): Paul Rudd Lives With Himself Literally On Netflix, While Amazon Prime Sings Modern Love

Hey There, Ho There, Whoa There, This is What's On Friday October 18th 2019

Streaming:

The two big premieres happening today are the Paul Rudd somehow ends up cloning himself comedy/drama "Living With Yourself" via Netflix--"A man who is burnt out on life undergoes a mysterious treatment only to discover that he has been replaced by a seemingly better version of himself" (So its kind of like that movie "Multiplicity" then??? I always wondered how long it would take someone to try and remake that movie!)

and the rom-com anthology show "Modern Love" via Amazon Prime. (Because of the fact that this is an anthology show, obviously each episode's cast is different but Tina Fey is in one of them, Catherine Keener, and Anne Hathaway will be in two others, Crsitn Milioti, John Slattery, Andy Garcia, Julia Garner, etc) Its based on a weekly column in the NY Times, for the record.

Also premiering tonight, this time on Hulu is the quirky drama "Looking For Alaska" based on the John Green young adult novel and produced by "The O.C." and "Gossip Girl" exec producer Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage-- Set in the early 00s, teenager Miles 'Pudge' Halter (Played by Charlie Plummer who starred in the movie "Lean On Pete" and also played the kidnapped Getty heir in "All the Money In the World")  is looking for meaning in his life when he enrolls in a boarding school to try and gain a deeper perspective on life when his life at home with his parents aren't cutting it. The show promises a lot of introspection and dorm room philosophizing, as the various young people in the show seek out answers to like life man. Two of the few adults in the cast is Veep's Timothy Simons and This Is Us's Ron Cephas Jones. Sophia Vassilieva (the oldest daughter from Medium) Uriah Shelton, Jay Lee, and Kristine Froseph co-star as the main guy's classmates and possible friends.

Broadcast:

Hawaii 5-0 (CBS): The task force enlists the help of imprisoned hacker Aaron Wright (aka Smart Joey Lawrence) when a young girl is kidnapped and he may end up having info on who did it. (This doesn't really seem like a good idea seeing as how in the season finale back in May, they turned to him for help and while he did help, he did also end up using it as a means to finesse an overly elaborate escape as well as managed to kill a fair number of people while McGarrett was chasing him down--soooo like maybe turning to him again so soon isn't the smartest thing to do 5-0 team but you do you!)

The Blacklist (NBC): Aram goes undercover to infiltrate a secret society of wealthy thrill seekers whose entertainment hinges upon spectacular acts of violence; Red tries to negotiate with a former associate involved in The Townsend Directive. (The Robert Townsend Directive?!?!?!? God you gotta love all the Robert Ludlum esque stuff that happens on this show from year to year--well i mean you do if you like that kind of fast moving nonsense, which i typically do) (Also an honest to goodness Aram centered episode! How rare is that?!?!?!?)

American Housewife (ABC): When Greg hosts a meeting for the Westport Historical Guild to welcome back Stan (who?) Katie's homemade lasagna is a huge hit with the guys (which leads to complications somehow???); Angela and Doris step in to help Oliver with his Teen Help Line interview. (Angela and Doris are rarely ever actually helpful, so this could be interesting to see)

Friday Night Smackdown (FOX): Smackdowns are passed around like candy corn on Halloween

Charmed (The CW): Macy tries making sense of some very intense dreams she's been having; Mel and Maggie try to accept their new roles but have trouble adjusting; Harry and Mel go on a road trip in search of the demons attempting to bring about the extinction of all witches. (Have they tried Salem, Mass???)

Are You Afraid Of the Dark (NICK): In another episode of this attempt at rebooting the old 90's pre-teen aimed anthology horror series--it premiered last week for the record---"When a friend's disappearance seems to be linked to Rachel's story, The Midnight Society decides to attend the Carnival of Doom to determine if it is the same carnival from Rachel's nightmares" (Now i'm thinking that this is not in fact an anthology show, cause this synopsis definitely doesn't read like that of something that's not dependent on having seen last week's episode--The Mystery of Are You Afraid Of the Dark deepens!!!!)

Raven's Home (Disney): Nia and Tess square off in a competition with Raven and Chelsea to see who can go without the longest without technology; Booker tries to impress a new girl in the building.  (You know what's so Raven??? The Amish! They go for an eternity without technology! Think about it Raven!)

8:30

Fresh Off the Boat (ABC): Eddie faces his fears and finally introduces his girlfriend to his mother Jessica; Louis searches for his next passion.  (Eddie is still dating Big Red's sister right? Trent! that's Big Red's name. Big Red is what Jessica always calls him--i liked her--she was a good fit with Eddie towards the end of last season)

Just Roll With It (Disney): Gwen volunteers to tutor the school's star basketball player--Big Jim--so that he can pass a test and play in the Big Game. (why is big game capitalized???) (Also i wonder what kind of wacky doings transpire while Gwen attempts to tutor Big Jim--ok i don't actually, but something's gotta pad out the twenty minute run time of the sitcom right???)

9:00

Magnum PI (CBS): Kastsumoto (Tim Kang!!!) suspects that one of his fellow cops is dirty and has stolen evidence, so he begrudgingly asks Magnum and Higgins to investigate; Rick and T.C. help football player Aaron Donald when his tablet which contains his entire playbook is stolen. (Oh Z'No!!!!) (I also like how the synopsis is careful to connote how the former Agent Cho doesn't quite wanna turn to Magnum for help since his entire character is more or less defined by his slight irritation and somewhat reluctance to aid Magnum...but look Tim Kang makes it work...he's a fine actor!)

Dateline (NBC): The murder of a young businessman in Old San Juan Puerto Rico sparks a 15 year manhunt for the killer.  (Well how do they know the killer is a man huh??? Maybe the killer was actually a werewolf, or two kids in a trenchcoat, you don't know!)

20/20 (ABC): Not to be outdone, but this newsmagazine has a two hour look at The Life and Death of Dorothy Stratten who was a Playboy Centerfold Model turned actress who was murdered by her estranged husband just when her acting career seemed about to take off thanks to a role in the 1981 John Ritter movie "They All Laughed"  (Awwww)

Dynasty (The CW): The Favorite Show of Our Very Own Michael Weyer (That's right i'm officially calling it your favorite show!!!) has the following as its synopsis "As Blake and Fallon face legal troubles, Fallon and Adam handle the outcome of Liam's accident in very different ways; Anders visits Sam at the hospital where they break ground and discover a room filled with valuable historical artifacts." (Valuable historical artifacts....In a hospital?!?!?!? That may be the hardest thing to believe on this show yet!)

Great Performances (PBS): 2019 Grammy Salute To The Masters---A tribute concert which includes performances by George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Johnny Mathis, Dione Warwick, Garth Brooks, Snoop Dogg, Patti Austin, Sheila E, Sam Moore, Julio Iglesias, and others! (nods)

Ancient Aliens (History): A shocking study reveals that the original builders of Stonehenge mysteriously vanished but Stonehenge Mysterious Bluestone Crude could have activated a portal that transported the ancient culture back to their former home among the stars. (Well that's one theory for what Croatoan is)

Gabby Duran and the Unsittables (Disney): Gabby has to choose between keeping her new secret alien babysitting gig a secret or risk it by blabbing about it to her alien obsessed friend Jasoo--Bazinga--her friend's name is actually Wesley.  (Bazinga!!!)

Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives (Food): Guy Fieri is grabbing some unique eats (That synopsis really isn't saying much but its listed as a new episode so who knows where he'll end up--maybe he'll materialize in my kitchen!!! Well the joke's on him cause my fridge really doesn't have a lot in it, i hope he likes baking soda!)

Gold Rush (Discovery): Parker bets millions on his crew sluicing in record time, Rick rushes to fire up the wash plund and find big nuggets; a showdown on the Indian River leaves a Klondike Legend scrambling. (????)

9:30

Green Acres (MeTV): Chaos reigns when Oliver buys foundation stock for a chicken ranch. (The episode is titled "Everywhere a Chick Chick")

10:00

Blue Bloods (CBS): Frank takes one of Jaime's cases to heart when it involves the suspicious death of his friend's wife; Erin revives an unsolved robbery case that proves to be impossible to crack without Anthony's help.

Van Helsing (SYFY): After an epic battle, Axel reconnects with Vanessa and comes to terms with the death of Scarlett. (Spoilers!!!)

In Search Of (History): This week this show profiles the lost colony of Roanoke. (Hey that's what Ancient Aliens is about this week!)

Ghost Nation (Travel): In Highland Michigan, a toddler witnesses a ghostly apparition walking across her room, the team then uncovers a connection to a Native American burial ground. (Of course it does!)

Hogan's Heroes (MeTV): "At Last...Schultz Knows Something!" is the title of this season 5 episode.

11:00

Comedy Central Presents (Comedy Central): This venerable Stand Up showcase series returns for a new season tonight featuring two back to back half hour specials--at 11--its Jaboukie Young White (yes from The Daily Show) and at 11:30 its Vanessa Gonzales

Room 104 (HBO): Lastly this actual anthology show has an episode in which "A singer/songwriter on tour confronts her inner turmoil while composing her next song." Starring Juliana Barwick (who?) and directed by exec producer Mark Dupless

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND EVERYBODY!!!!
