In late 1966/early 1967, Lennon's music began to take on more of a pacifist protest sound and he gradually grew into his role as an international peace activist...a role which brought him into the sharp focus of the Nixon Administration who sought to have him deported from the US for his anti-Vietnam stance.
Lennon readily displayed a rebellious nature and acerbic wit in his music, writing, artwork, acting and political activism. He never presented himself as a perfect man but readily showed himself to be a very flawed human. Fortunately for us, he set his flaws and mistakes to music so that we all may learn from them.
He was brutally gunned down in the archway entrance of The Dakota, his New York City home which faced Central Park. He left behind a great body of work, being one half of the most successful song writing duo in history. He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, both as a member of The Beatles and as a solo artist. He's in the Song Writers Hall of Fame and has been cited by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest singers of all time.
He was a man ahead of his time and his influence can be seen on every single division within Rock and Roll, from Rap to Heavy Metal.
