Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Oct. 8

Please welcome today's contestants:

- Scottie, a software engineer from California, got a mac & cheese tasting for his birthday;
- Rahul, a law clerk from Utah, observed an election overseas; and
- Jessica, a librarian from Maine, knows it's not a tour unless you get a buffet coupon. Jessica is a one-day champ with winnings of $12,600.

Scottie found all three DDs but missed both in DJ, leaving champ Jessica with an easy runaway at $17,200 vs. $2,800 for Scottie, with Rahul in the red at -$400.

DD1, $800 - HISTORY, THROUGH THE CENTURIES - 17th: On this woman's death in 1617, a London writer referred to her as "The Virgnian woman" (Scottie won $1,000 from his score of $1,400.)

DD2, $1,600 - COMPUTER KEYBOARDS - New evidence suggests that the QWERTY keyboard design may have sprung from telegraph operators translating this (Scottie lost $6,000 on a true DD vs. $10,000 for Jessica. Even though he missed, the bet size was fine, as that situation calls for either an all-in or a tiny wager.)

DD3, $1,200 - MUNICIPAL BEFORE & AFTER - "Small" piano that is the Michigan burial place for Gerald Ford (Scottie dropped $2,000 from his total of $4,000 vs. $16,000 for Jessica. With only upper-row clues remaining, Scottie needed to gamble and bet everything again to have a true chance to get back in the game.)

FJ - LAST WORDS - In 1876 in the Dakotas this American said, "The old duffer broke me on the last hand"

Only Jessica was correct on FJ, adding $2,800 to win with $20,000 for a two-day total of $32,600.

Triple Stumper of the day: The players didn't recognize a photo of long-time "60 Minutes" correspondent Steve Kroft (amusingly, Scottie guessed it was Andy Rooney).

That's before our time: No one knew the title shared by a Cream song and the movie starring SCTV's Bob and Doug McKenzie is "Strange Brew".

Correct Qs:
DD1 - Who was Pocahontas?
DD2 - What is Morse code?
DD3 - What is Baby Grand Rapids?
FJ - Who was Wild Bill Hickok?
