- Ed, a retiree from New York, used Gorilla Monsoon's kayfabe Manchurian heritage in his teaching;
- Dmitriy, a medical student from Illinois, "ment" to do better in a spelling bee; and
- Erin, a PhD student from Missouri, is related to James Naismith but still hates basketball. Erin is a one-day champ with winnings of $20,400.
Ed was very impressive, entering FJ with $30,600, but champ Erin rallied nicely, hitting DD3 and staying alive with $15,400 while Dmitriy trailed at $6,400.
DD1, $600 - EXPLORERS - Around 980 he sailed west & named the land he found Greenland (Dmitriy won the table maximum of $1,000.)
DD2, $1,200 - LONDON'S BLUE PLAQUES - He could have said, "I need the 2-wheeled carriage or 'cab' named for me to take me home to 27 Summer Place" (Ed won $5,000 from his leading score of $11,200.)
DD3, $1,600 - OH OH 3 Os- It's the Royal Navy rank just below rear admiral (Erin improved by $4,000 from her total of $7,800 vs. $24,600 for Ed. By leaving $3,800 on the table, Erin just narrowly escaped being out of reach of Ed going into FJ.)
FJ - 20th CENTURY AMERICAN WOMEN - In her only kids' book, she says, "There was Rose, Rose was her name & would she have been Rose if her name had not been Rose"
In the FJ category 20th Century American Women, only Ed was correct, adding just $400 to win with $31,000.
This day in Trebekistan: During FJ, Alex commented that Ed likely didn't bet a lot "because of the pressure that the champ was putting on", but Ed actually had room to bet up to $15,199 and still force Erin to be correct to win.
One more thing: If you're like me and didn't understand a clue's reference to "MMORPG", it stands for "Massively multi-player online role-playing game".
Correct Qs:
DD1 - Who was Erik the Red?
DD2 - Who was Hansom?
DD3 - What is commodore?
FJ - Who was Gertrude Stein?
