Politics Corner, September 8th



More stories some old some new. And one that's preventable. More women are crossing state lines for abortions. Why? Women's health care clinics are being legislated out of existence by laws that we're told are for the health of women. [Associated Press]

In an obvious misstep the protesters in Hong Kong asked for US intervention to help separate Hong Kong from China. The current administration is more likely to side with Beijing even as they continue a doomed trade war. China warned the protesters that any attempt at separation "will be crushed". [Reuters]

Boris Johnson lost his majority in Parliament and now he's losing his cabinet over his insistence on a no-deal Brexit. Work and pensions Secretary Amber Rudd has stepped down as she realized that there never would be a deal behind the no-deal and she watched in horror as fellow moderates were tossed from the party. Former South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford has taken time off from his busy schedule of hiking the Appalachian Trail to run for the Republican nomination for President. This could be extra embarrassing if his home state keeps its intention to not hold a primary next year. [CNN]


Someone thinks that it's a big deal that the DNC has a shit ton of info on Donald Trump to use against him in 2020. So what? So do the rest of us. It is encouraging that they mean to tailor their attacks to the local interests. [The Hill]
